Bob Hanson, the volunteer fire chief for the Long Run Fire Department, is one of the winners of the 2013 Ready Montana Awards.

The City of Glasgow is now dealing with its fourth group of architects to get a new roof on the leaky south side fire hall.

A new elevator at the Valley Event Center was approved by the state inspector on Wednesday, Feb. 6, just in time for the Squirt State A Hockey Tournament held here on Friday through Sunday. The elevator was installed in mid-January by Big Sky Elevator Service from Billings, but had to be inspected prior to the public using it. It is fully accessible and is rated up to 750 pounds.

The 11th annual Food Bank Challenge is underway. The Fort Peck Community Federal Credit Union has called on the other financial institutions in Glasgow to motivate their customers see who can bring in the most pounds of food for the Valley County Food Bank.

The Courier article on business conducted by the Valley County Commission on Feb. 3 was in error, according to Colleen Pankratz, coordinator of the Valley County Transit. The Federal Grant of $43,358 for fiscal year 1999 is part of the total budget of $165,171. Pankratz said that within this budget Valley County Transit is hoping to expand its services to include a weekly trip to Glendive.

Glasgow has been invited to join the Missouri River Communications Network, a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to provide the northeast Montana area with local television coverage.

Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital and STAT Ambulance hope to train over 250 people in the Glasgow area this year on what to do when a person has a heart attack. The training program was greatly enhanced when the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation and the Montana Automobile Dealers Association (MADA) presented a Resuscitation Junior training unit to the organization.

The City of Glasgow is offering a $150 reward – and no questions asked – for information leading to the arrest of the three unknown vandals who Sunday night kicked over 150 graves monuments at Highland Cemetery causing damage estimated at approximately $15,000.

Darrell Synan has taken over new duties as manager of Smitty's Texaco service station at 2nd Avenue and 4th Street South.

For those of you who have not flown out of Glasgow International airport since Feb. 6 – but plan to in the future – be prepared to meet the buzz box. The buzz box, officially known as an electro-search device, is now used to examine the person and carry on baggage of all airline passengers boarding at Glasgow or disembarking before continuing on to other destinations.

At 3 p.m. on Feb. 25, Glasgow Mayor Jim Christinson will belt the first ball to bounce off the $18,305 walls of the new racquetball court at the Civic Center.

Thursday, February 12, 1948

Mayor F. S. McIntyre this week is signing a contract with the Montana Power company for a "package deal" whereby the company will take over extensive improvement of the city lighting system, along with its operation and maintenance for a 20-year period. The plan has been under study by the city for the past two months, and the city council authorized signature of the contact last week.

A sale of heart-shaped tags for the benefit of the Montana Children's home and hospital and Shodair Crippled Children's home will be conducted in Glasgow Saturday. Young people will sell the tags under the direction of the Rev. H. C. Knuth, field representative for the hospital, living here. The salesmen will wear posters displaying the hearts and pictures showing the hospital or portraying its work.

Extensive improvement work is now under way in the Glasgow exchange of the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph. The company will provide five more long distance toll lines and increase the capacity for local phones by 280, it was announced this week by R. E. Stroman, Glasgow district manager.

Sale of the Savoy hotel here to Mr. and Mrs. Axel Anderson was announced this week by Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Edstrom. The Edstrom's purchased the hotel at First Avenue South and Sixth in September, 1946, and it has been remodeled and renovated since that time. The Andersons are taking immediate possession.
