Glasgow's girls basketball team lost both their non-conference games last week, moving their record to 1-5, 1-15 overall on the season. The Scotties hosted the top Class C team in the state Thursday, losing 45-19 to the North Country Mavericks. On the road in Scobey Saturday, Glasgow lost another tight game to the Spartans, 49-48.
Glasgow was shut out in the first two quarters against North Country Thursday while the Mavericks scored 10 and 11 in the same frames. The Scotties found their offense in the second half, finding shots far outside the key. Glasgow scored 5 in the third and 14 in the fourth, draining five shots from downtown, but North Country connected for 10 and 14 in the same quarters for the decisive win.
Joely Chappell, who started the Scotties' scoring, led the team with 7 points, with one shot from beyond the arc. Brielle Partridge and Mayzie Yoakam both hit two downtown shots for 6 points each. North Country afforded Glasgow no free throw attempts in the game.
North Country held their fouls to seven, three in the second half, while Glasgow had 12, five after halftime. Yoakam was called for three and Daley Aune, tasked with guarding Teagan Erickson for most of the game, drew three whistles. Tanae Baker, Chappell, Tatum Nyquist, Carly Nelson and Kyndal Schraner had one foul each.
Glasgow's JV team also fell to North Country, 45-23. The Mavericks went up 6-2 in the first and outscored the Scotties 16-4 in the second. Glasgow trailed 33-16 after three, and were outpaced 12-7 in the final eight minutes.
Gina Page led the Scotties with 6 points while Yoakam and Hayden Green both put up 5 with a free throw each. Piper Johnson, Haleigh Hunstmen and Schraner scored a bucket each and Paityn Britzman scored 1 point. Glasgow shot 27.3 percent from the line.
Charlee McColly led the Maveriks with 14 points, including a trey and a 1-for-2 showing at the line. Bailee McColly, with a trey, and Kodi McColly, with a free throw, each scored 9 points. Kennedy Simonson hit a trey on her way to 5 points and Jessa Erickson also hit a downtown shot. Lylith Bear and Ava Hanley both scored 2 points and Berkley Hillman hit a free throw. The Mavericks shot 31.3 percent at the stripe.
Both teams were called for 11 fouls, with North Country having five in the second half and Glasgow seven after intermission.
Yoakam had three fouls for Glasgow while Macy Martin and Hayden Green each drew two whistles. Riley Evenson-Glasoe, Britzman and Schraner had one foul a piece.
J. Erickson drew three on North Country's side. B. McColly, Bear, and K. McColly had two each while Hillman and C. McColly drew one whistle a piece.
In Scobey on Saturday, Glasgow trailed by a single point at the end of one, 12-11, before they tied it up at the half, 21-21. Scobey held a 33-30 lead after three quarters and fended off a Scottie surge in the fourth to win 49-48.
Aune led Glasgow with 21 points followed by Yoakam with 15 and Nelson with 6 points.
Opheim's Carrie Taylor, captain of the Spartans, led her team with 21 points.
The Scottie JV girls lost their game 38-33. They led 12-4 after one and 16-6 at the half but the Spartans came out strong in the second, outscoring the Scotties 16-6 in the third and 16-11 in the fourth quarter.
Johnson powered Glasgow with 13 points, hitting 5-of-6 at the line, while Green scored 9 points, draining her lone bonus shot. Yoakam scored 4 and Page hit a three-pointer while Evenson-Glasoe and Schraner added a bucket each. Glasgow shot 66 percent at the line.
Scobey held their fouls to 11 while Glasgow had 13 calls, seven in the second half. Martin drew four fouls while Page and Schraner each had three calls. Johnson was called for two and Britzman one foul.
Glasgow's C squad lost a tight contest, 27-26, to the Lions JV team in Lustre Friday night. The Scotties trailed 12-4 at the end of one and 19-14 at the half. They were outscored 6-4 in the third but surged in the fourth with 8 while holding the Lions to 2, but fell short of the win.
Britzman and Holinde led the Scotties with 6 points each. Page, Ella Eggebrecht and Myli Swindler scored 3 a piece. Huntsman and Kheyerah Bilger each added a bucket and Lacey White hit a free throw. Glasgow shot 30 percent at the line.
Lauryn Holzrichter led the Lions with 21 points, hitting three from downtown. Abby Olfert, Hannah Brown and Hope Marottek both added a bucket. The Lions shot 22.2 percent from the line.
Both teams were called for 13 fouls.
Abbey Kulczyk and Britzman each drew three for Glasgow while Page, White and Holinde had two whistles each. Eggebrecht drew one call.
Martottek had four fouls for Lustre while Brown had three and Olfert two. Emmanuella Jean, Jaden Gibson, Kimberly Kwagala and Rodas Gebreyohannes had one foul a piece.
Glasgow closes out their regular season this week with two conference games. The Scotties host Harlem for Senior Night Friday, Feb. 10, and travel to Poplar Saturday, Feb. 11.
The Scottie boys C squad will play the first game Friday, tipping off at noon, followed by the girls C game at 1:30 p.m. The boys JV game begins at 3 p.m. with the girls JV teams playing at 4:30 p.m. The varsity boys tip off at 6 with the girls varsity game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The K-8 Scottie Cheer Camp will perform during the boys varsity halftime. Senior Night recognition for basketball, pep band and cheer will occur between the boys and girls varsity games.
Saturday, the girls C squad and girls JV games will be at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Middle School gym. C boys tip off at 1 p.m. also, followed by JV boys at 2:30 p.m., in the High School gym. The varsity boys hit the court at 4 p.m. followed by the girls varsity game at 5:30 p.m., both also in the High School gym.
