Nashua’s girls basketball team picked up two wins this past week, improving their record to 4-5, 8-8 overall. The Porcupines beat Frazer 61-38 on the road in a conference match-up Friday and defeated the Warriors 36-25 in a non-conference game in Brockton Saturday.
Nashua went up 10-4 over Frazer in the first quarter Friday and outscored the Bearcubs 16-11 in the second. Nashua put up 18 in the third and held Frazer to 10 for a 44-25 lead heading into the final quarter. The Porcupines outpaced the Bearcubs 17-13 in the final eight minutes.
Tia Dees led Nashua with 19 points, going 4-for-9 on free throws. Guinevere Abern scored 14 with a 6-for-8 showing at the line and Alexis Murdock shot 3-for-4 on free throws on her way to 11 points. Kaitlyn Miller hit for 8 with 4-of-6 free throws and Madison Harris added 7 with a 1-for-4 performance at the stripe. Gracyn Sibley hit her only bonus shot and a bucket. Nashua shot 52.9 percent at the line.
Frazer was called for 24 fouls, 12 in each half, while Nashua held their fouls to seven, five in the second half. Miller fouled out while Harris and Dees had one each.
Nashua also established their lead early in their road game Saturday, putting up 16 in the first and holding Brockton to 5 points. Nashua led 26-14 at the half and outscored the Warriors 6-4 in the third. Brockton put up 7 in the fourth and held the Porcupines to 4 points.
Dees scored 18 points, hitting a three-pointer and going 3-for-8 at the line. Miller scored 6 with a 2-for-2 showing at the stripe. Sibley and Harris both scored 4 while Murdock and Abern scored a bucket each. Nashua shot 50.0 percent on free throws.
Nashua closes out the regular season with two home games this weekend. The Porcupines host Scobey Friday, Feb. 10. The girls JV team will play a half-game at 4 p.m. Varsity girls tip off at 6 p.m. with the varsity boys game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Richey/Lambert will be in Nashua Saturday, Feb. 11, for three games. The girlss JV teams will play a half-game at 5 p.m., followed by varsity girls at 6 p.m. and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
