Ice Dawgs Bark and Bite in Wins Over Icedogs

The high school Ice Dawgs improved their record to 14-4-0 this past weekend with two wins over the Bozeman Icedogs. Glasgow won 4-2 Friday night and 3-2 Saturday morning despite racking up 88 penalty minutes on 24 infractions over the course of two games. Bozeman had 34 minutes on 13 penalties.

Bozeman struck first Friday night, scoring with 6:03 remaining in the first period. Glasgow answered two minutes later with a power play goal from Charlie Cornwell, assisted by Tavin Boland and Tristan Powell for a 1-1 tie heading into the second period.

The Icedogs took the lead again with 6:42 left before intermission, scoring on a power play caused by a Glasgow bench minor, but the Dawgs tied it 57 seconds later. Boland hit an even-strength goal with assists from Trevor Dulaney and Mason Hunter. Michael Hoyer scored the go-ahead goal with 2:42 left on the clock to give the Dawgs a 3-2 lead heading into the final period.

Dulaney scored the insurance goal for Glasgow 5:40 into the third.

Glasgow went 1-for-3 on the man advantage while shutting down six of Bozeman's power plays.

The Dawgs played a clean second with six calls in the second and three in the third period.

Hunter, holding; Dillon Hughes, roughing; Lex Fairclough, cross-checking; Hoyer, interference; a bench minor, and Hunter, roughing, all earned penalty minutes in the second. Boland drew a 2-and-10 in the third for boarding and misconduct while Tatum Hansen served an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Aidin Wilkowski, in net for Glasgow, turned away 27 of 29 shots on his net for a 93.1 save percentage. He saw eight pucks in the first, 10 in the second and 11 in the third. Glasgow put 38 pucks on the Bozeman goaltender: 10 in the first, 18 in the second and 10 in the third.

Saturday morning, Bozeman was first again to light the lamp, hitting just 44 seconds into the first. Glasgow tied the game with 13 minutes left on the clock when Bode Barnett hit an even-strength goal with help from Cornwell and Hunter.

Barnett put Glasgow ahead 3:34 into the second, assisted by Cornwell and Fairclough, but Bozeman tied it just under two minutes later on a power play.

Tied 2-2, 13:58 clicked off the clock before anyone found the back of the net. Hansen broke the tie and netted the game-winning goal unassisted with 3:02 left to play.

Glasgow racked up 62 minutes on 15 infractions in 51 minutes of play while Bozeman had 14 minutes in the box on seven calls. The Dawgs were 0-for-3 on the man advantage while the Icedogs convered on one of their seven power plays.

Hoyer served a minor in the first while Zevin Kummerfeldt sat for both roughing and tripping. In the second, Glasgow drew calls for checking from behind; Hunter, cross-checking; cross-checking; Hunter, misconduct; charging; Dulaney, a 2-and-10 for roughing and misconduct; Powell, misconduct, and Boland, roughing. Corwell sat for tripping in the third while Barnett drew a 2-and-10.

Glasgow put 36 shots on net: 13 in the first, 12 in second and 11 in the third. Wilksowski faced 12 shots in the first, eight in the second and 12 in the third, turning away 33 of the 36 attempts on his net for a 91.7 save percentage.

The Ice Dawgs are off this weekend and return to play Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18 and 19, with a double header against the Helena Bighorns. The teams face off at 6 p.m. at the Valley Event Center Saturday night followed by a 10 a.m. game Sunday morning.

The Bantams will be home this weekend with games against Great Falls Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11. The Bantam Ice Dawgs face the Americans at 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. They host Billings Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18 and 19. Glasgow takes on the Bulls at 4 p.m. Feb. 18 and 8 a.m. Feb. 19.
