Scottie Boys Drop Two Conference Games

Glasgow’s boys basketball team dropped two conference games this past week. The Scotties fell in Malta 70-49 Thursday, then dropped a tight 58-52 battle against Wolf Point at home Friday night. Glasgow’s record sits at 1-5, 5-9 overall.

On the road Thursday, the Scotties found themselves down by 7 points at the end of the first quarter, 21-14. The Mustangs put up 22 in the second while holding the Scotties to 11 points. Glasgow put up another 11 in the third while Malta added 19 for a 62-36 lead heading into the final quarter. The Scotties outpaced the Mustangs 13-8 in the last eight minutes.

Wyatt Babb led the Scotties with 16 points, going 2-for-7 on free throws. Cade Hudyma added 13 points with a 1-for-2 showing at the free throw line. Keigan Ingram scored 8, hitting 2-of-4 bonus shots. Vaughn Miller added 5 with a 1-for-3 showing at the line. Connor Hudyma scored 4 points, Riley Smith 2, and Toryn Richards sunk 1-of-2 bonus shots.

The Scotties pulled down 37 total rebounds, 11 offensive. Ca. Hudyma and Ingram grabbed eight each followed by Smith with seven and Babb with six rebounds. Nick Solorzano and Co. Hudyma had three each while Miller and Toryn Richards snagged one a piece.

Glasgow had 13 fouls in the game. Jordan Cook and Ingram were both called for three while Babb and Ca. Hudyma had two each. KJ Ingram, Smith, and Richards drew a whistle a piece.

As a team the Scotties had eight assists, 15 turnovers, three steals and five blocks. Babb had two assists while Solorzano, Myles Yoakam, Co. Hudyma, Ke. Ingram, Miller and Richards had one a piece. Babb had five turnovers, followed by KJ Ingram with four and Richards with two. Ashton Potter, Solorzano, Ca. Hudyma and Ke. Ingram had one giveaway each. Ke. Ingram had two takeaways and Cook had one steal. Ca. Hudyma had three of the team’s blocks with Smith and Babb notching one a piece.

Glasgow’s JV squad won their game 55-31. The Scotties put up 14 points in both the first and second quarters while holding the Mustangs to 3 and 13 in the same frames. Malta scored 14 in the third but Glasgow outpaced them with 19. The Scotties went on to outscore Malta 8-4 in the last eight minutes.

Miller led the team with 13 points, draining 1-of-1 bonus shots. Andy Hanson scored 12 points, including two three-pointers. Co. Hudyma scored 10, hitting 2-of-4 free throws. Ca. Hudyma added 9, with a 1-for-1 showing at the line. Noah Runner and Myles Yoakam both drained a shot beyond the arc on their way to 5 each. Cook scored 3, with 1-of-2 free throws. Solorzano and Rex Monson hit a bucket each.

Both teams were called for 11 fouls. Six of Glasgow’s came in the second half while Malta had five after halftime. Yoakam was called for four while Solorzano and Cook had two each. Runner, Co. Hudyma and Miller drew a whistle each.

At home the following night the Scotties battled back from a first half deficit with a strong showing after halftime, but still fell short of the win. Wolf Point raced out a to 20-9 lead at the end of one and held a 31-21 advantage at the half. Glasgow surged in the third with 17 points while holding the Wolves to 10 but a foul-heavy fourth quarter afforded Wolf Point 16 bonus shots and the visitors hit 10 of those to win 58-52.

Glasgow was called for 23 fouls, 15 in the second half. Wolf Point had 17 total, six in the second half. KJ Ingram fouled out and Potter and Richards had four fouls each. Babb and Ke. Ingram were both called for three while Cook and Smith had two fouls a piece.

Babb again led the Scotties in scoring, this time with 16 points. He hit a three-pointer and 3-of-4 free throws. Smith and Ca. Hudyma each scored 10 with Smith draining both of his bonus shots. KJ. Ingram hit a trey and 3-of-5 free throws on his way to 8 points. Richards had 5 with a shot from downtown and Ke. Ingram had 3 points with a 1-for-3 showing at the line.

As a team the Scotties hit 38.9 percent from the field and 64.0 percent at the free throw line. Glasgow had 42 rebounds, 11 offensive, with 16 assists, 24 turnovers, two steals and four blocks. Smith and Babb each had nine boards while Ke. Ingram had seven. Richards and Ca. Hudyma pulled down five each followed by Potter with four, KJ Ingram two and Cook with one. Babb had six assists followed by Potter with three; Smith, Ke. Ingram, and Richards two each, and Cook with one. KJ Ingram turned the ball over six times while Babb and Cook each had four giveaways. Potter and Ke. Ingram had three turnovers, Richards two, and Smith and Ca. Hudyma one each. Smith and Babb had one steal each. Babb added two blocked shots and Ke. Ingram and Ca. Hudyma stopped one shot a piece.

The Scottie JV team handily won their game, 57-25. They led 19-5 at the end of the first and 26-9 at the half. They outscored Wolf Point 22-4 in the third while the Wolves outpaced the Scotties 12-10 in the fourth.

Ca. Hudyma dropped 24 points in with 4-of-6 shooting at the charity stripe. Miller added 10 points and Hanson 9 with two treys and a 3-for-4 performance at the line. Co. Hudyma scored 6, Yoakam 4 with 2-of-2 free throws, Solorzano 3 with 1-of-2 free throws, Runner 2 and Monson 1 with a 1-for-2 showing at the line. The JV team hit 61.0 percent on free throws.

Glasgow held their fouls to 11, four in the second half, while Wolf Point had 15, 10 after the break. Cook was called for four, Solorzano and Co. Hudyma three each and Yoakam one foul.

The Scottie C squad also turned in a win, 53-44. They put up 17 in the first quarter while holding the Wolves to 7, and led 28-13 at the half. Wolf Point outpaced Glasgow 16-10 in the third while both teams put up 15 in the final eight minutes.

Davis Tolzien led the squad with 18 points, hitting 2-of-3 free throws. Wyatt Sugg cored 15 with a 1-for-2 showing at the line. Monson scored 7, also with 1-for-2 free throws. Trey Graham scored 6 and Cam Nelson drained a shot from downtown. Hanson and Runner both hit 2-of-2 free throws for the Scotties. Glasgow hit 72.7 percent from the line.

Wolf Point had 10 fouls, split evenly between the halves, while Glasgow had nine, three after the break. Hanson was called for three and Sugg two fouls. Kyler Whitman, Klay Cornwell, Tolzein and Jorden Wilson drew a whistle a piece.

Glasgow hosts the North Country Mavericks Thursday, Feb. 2, for the Teddy Bear Toss, which will take place between the varsity games. Fans are encouraged to bring new and gently used stuffed animals for the toss, all of which will be donated to FMDH, Phillips Co. Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings for children having overnight stays.

The JV Scotties and Mavericks will play a half-game at 3:30 p.m. and the girls JV team will tip off at 4:30 p.m. The boys varsity game is scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by the girls varsity game at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 3, Glasgow’s C teams travel to Lustre for a 5 p.m. girls game and a 6:30 p.m. boys game.

Glasgow travels to Scobey Saturday, Feb. 4 to take on the Spartans. The C boys play at 1:30 p.m followed by the JV girls at 3 p.m. and JV boys at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls tip off and 6 p.m. with the boys varsity game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
