Montana's unemployment rate continued to drop in December, falling 0.1 percentage points to 5.7 percent. Montana's unemployment rate has been on a downward trend since mid- 2011.

There are plenty of good things about Glasgow now and things people would like to see – or avoid- in the future. A public meeting on Jan. 23 drew about 25 people to the Glasgow High School auditorium to share in the formation of community goals for a new Growth Policy.

The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for northeast Montana from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning, amid blowing and drifting snow that reduced highways in the north country to severe driving conditions. Wednesday may see a high temperature that doesn't even reach zero, and wind chills from minus 20 to minus 40 degrees.

The Glasgow High School Speech and Drama Team competed at the Montana Class B-C Forensic Meet in Huntley Project on Friday and Saturday. The Scotties qualified 11 competitors for state competition with eight competing in semi-finals and five standing on the podium at the end of the meet.

Glasgow High School took second in Class B in the Eastern Division ABC Speech, Debate and Drama Meet last weekend in Plentywood.

The Glasgow Police Association is sponsoring a touring show, " The Magic of Jay Owenhouse." After eight months in development, the Owenhouse show will tour across the nation. Stage productions will include: Jay's Bengal Tiger, ShereKhan; The Crystal Death Chamber; The levitation illusion, Floating: The Elevator Mystery; Mind reading; Magic for the Future and The Appearance of a 30 ft. Futuristic Fighter Jet.

Over the last few weeks, the Nashua girls have seen a good bit of volleyball court action. On Jan. 13, they met Saco,winning three in a row, 15-5, 15-2, 15-4.

The Scottie volleyball team added another win to their record by downing conference rivals Wolf Point and Chinook Thursday and Friday. The Scottie netters took out a young Wolf Point team, 15-5, 15-8, and 15-2.

Pioneer Opheim school teacher, 80- year- old Mrs. Aletta Eliason Tufte of Great Falls, is one of two women who will receive the Montana Cowgirls Association's Heritage Award and have their names entered in the women's' division of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Discussion focused on the hot lunch program and the upcoming budget for school district 1 and 1A at a meeting of the board of trustees in the junior high building Jan. 24. After several weeks' discussion and study of the hot lunch program and related costs, trustees approved a boost of 10 cents, from 30 to 40 cents, per meal for hot lunches, effective Feb. 1.

New President Tom Coghlan outlined Elks Manor retirement center, a new hospital and the proposed addition of a 10,000-head feedlot as the "Key for 1973" projects for the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, Tuesday night at the annual banquet held in St. Raphael's gymnasium.

Glasgow's undefeated eighth grade Scotty Pups shoot for their 14th consecutive victory in the season finale Friday night at Wolf Point.

The Glasgow Packing plant will be in operation probably early this spring was the announcement made here this week following the annual stockholders' and directors' organization meeting.

Growth from a "backroom" space to its own building and postal receipts that have more than quadrupled have been the experience of Emory B. Pease who completes 35 years of service as assistant postmaster of the Glasgow postoffice on Jan. 31.

"Grand opening" of the Ellis Motor Sales new garage building will be held Saturday, Owner Lee Ellis announced today in issuing an invitation to the public to visit and inspect the new and modern structure on First Avenue North.

Roy Wells, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wells of Fort Peck is one of the Valley County children being helped back to health by hospital treatments sponsored by the Valley County chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.
