Glasgow's wrestling teams are quickly approaching the end of their regular season with two more events this week. The Scotties held their Senior Night Tuesday with a dual against the Dawson County Red Devils under the lights in Scottie Gymnasium.
Friday, Jan. 27, the teams will be in Malta for the Malta Mixer. They return to Malta Saturday, Jan. 28, for the Malta Invitational.
The Scotties are coming off another busy week. They hit three Mixers from Jan. 17 to Jan. 21. Last Tuesday the teams traveled the Hi-Line for the Poplar Mixer where they posted 17 wins and three losses. The boys went 16-2 while the girls were 1-1.
Friday they went east for the Chinook Mixer. Glasgow brought home 21 wins with nine losses overall where the boys won 18 matches, losing five, and the girls won three with four losses. The Harlem Mixer was Saturday and Glasgow put up 26 wins with 10 losses. The boys went 23-5 while the girls were 3-5.
Combined the teams had a 74 winning percentage. The boys put up an 82.6 win percentage, a solid showing with postseason around the corner.
Six Glasgow grapplers came home with undefeated records on the week. Ted See posted a 5-0 record at 120 lbs. while Cash Richardson won his lone match in the same weight class. Khye Gamas was also 5-0, wrestling at 138 lbs. At 145 lbs., William Kirkland won all seven of his showdowns.
Michael King, wrestling at 170 lbs. in Poplar and at 160 lbs. in Chinook and Harlem, won all seven of his matches. Mo Fast, at 285 lbs., established a 5-0 record over the three mixers.
For the girls, Madison Lamb went 4-0 at the Chinook and Harlem Mixers.
Four wrestlers lost only one match on the week. Cody Kuka and Makiya Plummer, both at 120 lbs., put up a 4-1 win-loss ration. Jack Cornwell went 5-1 at 145 lbs. while teammate Mason Donaldson was also 5-1, wrestling at 170 lbs.
The Glasgow boys jumped up in the Class B/C Wrestling Coaches Power Poll between the Jan. 18 release and the Jan. 23 poll.
In the Jan. 18 poll, Glasgow ranked seventh in the state with three grapplers earning individual distinctions. Gamas was ranked second at 138, Kirkland sixth at 145, and Fast fourth at 285. Fast forwarding a week, the Scotties moved up to the number-five team slot with four wrestlers singled out. Kuka broke into the poll with a third place ranking in the 103 lbs. class. Gamas slipped from second to third. Kirkland and Fast both moved up a spot with Kirkland in fifth and Fast in third.
