Lustre Boys Win Three

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team improved their record to 6-0, 13-0 overall this past week with wins over Dodson, Nashua and Culbertson. The Lions won a 75-33 conference game at home over Dodson Jan. 17 and added another conference win in Nashua Jan. 19 with a 79-35 victory over the Porcupines. Lustre defeated Culbertson 74-45 at home the following night in a non-conference match up.

Against Dodson on Tuesday, Lustre held a 6-point lead after one quarter, 14-8. The Lions fired up the offense in the second with 23 points while holding the visiting Coyotes to 7. Lustre held a 55-26 lead after three quarters and outscored Dodson 20-7 in the final eight minutes of play.

As a team, the Lions had 26 assists, 12 steals and 39 rebounds.

Elijah Lenihan led his Lions in scoring with 15 points with two three-pointers and a 1-for-2 showing at the free throw line. Braden Ewing connected for 14 points, also with a 1-for-2 free throw performance, and Jasiah Hambira added 12 points. Cayden Klatt also hit double-digits with 10 points on three treys and hitting 1-of-2 free throws.

Bryan Chen and Byron Ewing both added 6 points and Johnslee Pierre hit for 5 with a shot from downtown. Prestyn Klatt added a trey while Clay Reddig and Cam Reddig both added a bucket.

Dodson held their fouls to eight, three in the second half, while Lustre Christian racked up 20 infractions, eight in the second half.

Br. Ewing and Hambira were each called for four while Chen had three fouls. Terran Joseph and Lenihan drew the officials' attention once each while Cl. Reddig, Klatt, Ca. Reddig, Alex Chen and Nathan Fast had a foul a piece.

Thursday night, the Lions made the (relatively) short journey to Nashua where they secured another conference win. They held a 23-7 lead at the end of the first. They doubled their score in the second while holding Nashua to 6 points for a 46-13 lead at the half. Lustre kept the ball dropping in the third with 21 points while their hosts put up 10 points. Both teams scored 12 in the final eight minutes.

The Lions combined for 38 rebounds, 22 assists and 21 steals.

Lenihan led a balanced score sheet, putting up 12 points with two shots from beyond the arc. Hambira followed with 11, hitting 1-for-1 on bonus shots. Klatt, with two treys, and By. Ewing both hit for 10 points while A. Chen, with a three-pointer, and Br. Ewing, 1-for-2 at the line, added 9 each. Diek Olfert drained two threes for 6 points. Pierre also scored 6 with three shots from the floor. Fast scored 4 and Ca. Reddig added a bucket.

Lustre had 13 fouls, six in the second half, while Nashua held theirs to 10 total, also six in the second half. By. Ewing was called for three while B. Chen and Pierre had two fouls each. Cl. Reddig, Olfert, Ca. Reddig, A. Chen, Lenihan and Br. Ewing drew a single whistle a piece.

Lustre closed out the week with a win over Culbertson after taking a 31-7 lead in the first. The Lions increased their lead to 53-19 by the half and led 68-27 after three quarters. The Cowboys rallied with 16 in the final eight minutes while holding the Lions to 6 points.

Lustre had 30 rebounds, 17 assists and 16 steals in the win over Culbertson.

Lenihan poured in 22 points in leading the Lions, including two treys. Hambira hit for 16 and C. Klatt added another 10 with two downtown shots. Pierre scored 7, draining his single free throw. By. Ewing hit 2-of-2 bonus shots on his way to 6 points. Cl. Reddig and Br. Ewing added 4 each, A. Chen hit a three-pointer, and B. Chen added a bucket.

Lustre racked up 21 fouls, nine in the second half, while Culbertson held theirs to 11, five in the second half. B. Chen, Pierre, Br. Ewing and Hambira were each called for three. Cl. Reddig and By. Ewing had two fouls a piece. C. Klatt, P. Klatt, Joseph, Lenihan and Fast drew a single whistle a piece.

Lustre hosted Scobey/Opheim Jan. 24 but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Lions travel to Bainville Friday, Jan. 27, to take on the Bulldogs with games beginning at 4:30 p.m.
