Glasgow’s Bantam hockey team brought home two decisive wins from Helena. The Ice Dawgs downed the Bighorns 8-0 Jan. 21 and followed that with an 9-1 drubbing the following morning. Glasgow sits in third place in the Bantam division with a 6-2-1 record. Great Falls and Butte are tied for first with records of 7-1-0.
The Dawgs took a commanding 4-0 lead in the first period Saturday. Landon Honey netted the first goal with an assist from Reilly Llewellyn. Carter Holte hit next followed by Brody Hansen. Hansen scored a short-handed goal with Halley Hunter in the box for interference to close out the period.
Glasgow added three more goals in the second period. Holte scored first in the second followed by Honey and Hansen to give the Dawgs a 7-0 lead heading into the final period.
Honey netted his third goal in the third for a hat trick and closed out the game.
Jacob Potter earned the shut out for Glasgow, turning away 35 shots. Glasgow put 49 pucks on the Helena netminder.
Glasgow served time for six penalties in the game. Hunter sat in the first for her interference call. Gryffen Collins, tripping, and Hansen, interference, sat in the second period. In the third Honey, roughing, sat for two minutes while Collins was called for a 2-and-10 on elbowing and misconduct.
Sunday morning, Helena scored first in the game before Glasgow took control. Down 1-0, Hansen answered for Glasgow with two goals before the end of the period. Hunter Negus assisted on the first Hansen goal and Honey had the assist on the second.
Hansen kept the action going in the second with another two goals. He earned the natural hat trick on the first and had help from Honey on the second. Collins found the back of the net next, with an assist from Hansen. Negus scored a goal following that and Honey closed out the period with a goal assisted by Hudson Honey.
Hansen scored twice in the third for Glasgow to cement the Dawgs’ win. H. Honey assisted on the second of those goals.
Potter had a 96.3 save percentage in net for Glasgow, turning away 26 shots. His teammates put 57 pucks on Helena’s goal.
The Dawgs and Bighorns were each called for three penalties. L. Honey, roughing and Hansen, unsportsmanlike, sat in the first period. Hunter sat for roughing in the second.
The Bantams return to the ice Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, in Glasgow when they host Great Falls. The Dawgs face off against the Americans at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, and again at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Valley Event Center.
