City employees will receive a raise this year, after the Glasgow City Council approved a collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local No. 2. The $.25 per hour increase was also extended to non-bargaining city employees. Police did not request a raise this year. The Council passed a resolution establishing the effective date of the new city salaries as July 1, 2012.
A Nashua native has been named as the new administrator of Valley View Home in Glasgow. Kandi Svenningson, who was Kandi Carpenter when she was an aide at Valley View in high school during the 1970s, will go back as its chief, starting Feb. 11.
The Glasgow High School Speech and Drama Team competed in the Eastern Divisional Speech and Drama Meet in Culbertson on Friday and Saturday. The Scotties had two divisional champions, placed third in Drama, and qualified 12 for the State Forensic competition in Huntley Project on Jan. 25-26.

The private 500- bed prison mandated by the Montana legislature to handle the overflowing inmate population is not going to be built in Valley County. " We are interested at this point only in Shelby," said Riley Johnson, the Montana representative for Wackenhut Corrections Corp. of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Wackenhut is the only one of the six corrections companies that are making a bid which is known to have been considering a site in Valley County.
Glasgow schools are ready for any type of crisis, thanks to a new and updated Crisis Plan that has been implemented recently. The new plan, Death at School- After Suicide, was introduced at the September school board meeting. At that meeting, the board voted unanimously to purchase enough of the manuals to have one in each school. The crisis plan had originally been set up by Garry Stidman and Lori Guyer. This manual covers death, medical problems, drug overdose, verbal and written suicides, suicide in progress, bus accidents, injury on physical education, and much more.
Valley County Sheriff Richard Britzman has decided to unpin his star. He said 28 years in law enforcement is long enough and he will not run again for sheriff in November.
The Scotties Volleyball teams traveled to Billings last weekend to take on the AA Skyview and Billings West teams. When the Scotties returned home, they had two more wins to their credit, bringing their record to 11-0.

Workmen wheel buckets of roof sealer into place atop the new Valley County Courthouse- Jail Complex which is now almost completely sealed against the elements and near the 75 percent mark.
"The best year in history." These were the words of Lynn Grobel, president of Glasgow's First National Bank, in describing the bank's activities for 1972. The occasion was the annual stockholders meeting, held in the bank community room, Jan. 16. Unusually good crop conditions, coupled with much improved prices for agricultural products were cited as the main reasons for the bank's unusual growth. A dedicated staff and a new bank building also contributed, according to Grobel. Deposits increased by five million dollars during the year. A rate of growth twice as great as any previous year. The year end total was $22.2 million.
The official Montana Public Service Commission's public protest hearing on Montana-Dakota Utilities' application for a 13.5 percent rate increase for natural gas customers in the Glasgow area has gone down the pipe.
Glasgow Post Office personnel will participate in an intensive nation-wide drive beginning Feb. 1 to stamp hazards and reduce the number of accidents plaguing postal employees, it was announced this week by Glasgow postmaster H. M. Halverson.

Dr. K. R. Steffensen was presented the Glasgow Junior Chamber of Commerce service award for outstanding community service in 1947 at a Jaycee banquet in the Lutheran Church Wednesday night.
Glasgow Scotties made it a clean sweep for the weekend when they toppled the Great Falls Bison, 38 to 36, before a standing room only to crowd in the Civic Center here Saturday night.
Camilla Williams, who appears in the first Glasgow community concert in the high school auditorium Friday night, has earned notable recognition although still in her early twenties. She first received acclaim in the Philadelphia orchestra youth auditions, which she won in 1944. She then appeared as a soloist with the orchestra that year at the Academy of Music.
Six new directors were elected by the member of the Chamber of Commerce, according to results announced this week by a committee for candidates. The new directors are William Alvord, Buell C. Hayward, August F. Ibsen, Milo Jennings, Mark Watson, and E. D. Benson.
