Glasgow Girls Pick Up First Win In Harlem

The Scottie girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 49-38 road win over Harlem Jan. 13. Glasgow fell in a tight down-to-the-wire game against Poplar at home the following night. The 51-49 loss gave the Scotties a 1-3, 1-9 overall, record.

Carly Nelson hit 42.9 percent from the field on her way to 23 points. She went 5-for-8 on free throws and led in rebounds with 16, seven offensive. Daley Aune added 11 points with a 7-for-11 showing at the line. Aune added eight rebounds, three offensive. Kyndal Schraner put up 6 points, going 2-for-2 on bonus shots. She had 10 rebounds, six offensive. Mayzie Yoakam scored 5 points with a free throw and pulled down three boards, two offensive. Joely Chappel scored two buckets and had 10 rebounds, seven offensive. Brielle Partridge had four rebounds for the Scotties.

Aune led in assists with six and had four turnovers. Partridge had one assist while Yoakam had an assist with six turnovers. Chappell had two giveaways, Nelson four, Schraner three, and Piper Johnson and Tanae Baker had one turnover each.

Schraner and Yoakam led in steals with three each while Partridge and Aune had two takeaways. Chappell added a steal to the stats. Schraner and Yoakam added a block a piece.

Glasgow had seven fouls with Nelson drawing four whistles, Schraner three and Aune two.

The Scotties hit their home court the following night against the Indians. A slow start to the game saw the score tied at 5 at the end of one quarter. Poplar took control of the game in the second with 22 points while holding Glasgow to 14, leaving the Scotties trailing 27-19 at the half. Poplar outscored Glasgow 14-10 in the third.

Both teams kept the officials busy in the fourth quarter with Glasgow giving Poplar seven bonus shots and the Scotties getting 13 chances at the line. Poplar hit 4-of-7 while Glasgow connected on 8-of-13 as the Scotties outscored the Indians 20-10 in the final eight minutes. In the final minute, Yoakam hit a three-pointer to tie the game, but missed the free throw resulting from a foul on the shot. A foul by Glasgow sent Poplar to the line with 12.7 seconds left to play. The Poplar player drained both shots despite a deafening roar from the fired up crowd.

As a team, Glasgow hit 28.6 percent from the field and 61.8 percent at the free throw line. Aune led the Scotties with 16 points, hitting 6-of-6 at the line. Yoakam added 12 with her trey and 5-of-9 shooting at the charity stripe. Nelson connected for 10 points. Partridge hit a three for 5 points, Baker went 4-for-7 on free throws and Schaner hit 2-of-2 bonus shots.

Poplar was called for 28 fouls, 15 in the second half, while Glasgow had 18, 11 coming in the second half.

Nelson fouled out while Aune and Schraner came close with four each. Baker and Chappell each had two fouls while Yoakam drew a single whistle.

The Scotties notched 36 rebounds, 16 offensive, with 11 assists and 31 turnovers. Glasgow had 25 steals and three blocks.

Glasgow's JV team won their game 41-26 after leading all four quarters: 15-5 after one, 17-15 at the half and 30-24 going into the fourth quarter.

Johnson and Hayden Green led the team with a strong inside game, putting up 16 points each. Gina Page scored 5, Paityn Britzman 3 and Yoakam 1 point.

The C squad overcame a first half deficit to win their game 45-28. They trailed 8-7 at the end of one and 17-16 at the half. Glasgow outscored Poplar 16-7 in the third and 13-4 in the final quarter.

Myli Swindler led a balanced scoring sheet with 12 points. Britzman and Hannah Holinde each scored 7 and Haleigh Huntsman added 6 points. Ella Eggebrecht and Lacey White both added 4 points. Page hit for 3 and Kheyerah Bilger 2 points.

Glasgow is home this week with two match-ups against Class A teams.

The Sidney Eagles will be in town Friday, Jan. 20, with Glasgow hosting Glendive Saturday, Jan. 21. Games on both days start at noon with the boys C game. Girls C teams hit the court at 1:30 p.m. followed by boys JV at 3 p.m. and girls JV at 4:30 p.m. The boys varsity game tips off at 6 p.m. and the 7:30 p.m. varsity girls game concludes the night.

All games will be carried on the NFHS Network with KLTZ broadcasting the varsity match ups.

Glasgow Boys 1-3 With Win Over Poplar

Glasgow's boys basketball team sits with a 1-3 record, 4-6 overall, after picking up a home win against Poplar Jan. 14. The 59-45 victory came the night after the Scotties fell to the Wildcats in Harlem 51-50 following a Harlem surge in the final quarter.

The Scotties led in the first three quarters against the Wildcats before a rally by Harlem in the final eight minutes changed the game. Glasgow led 19-17 after one quarter and outscored Harlem 13-7 in the second. The Wildcats edged the Scotties by a point in the third, 11-10, and fought back with a 15-point fourth quarter while holding Glasgow to 8 points.

Wyatt Babb led the Scotties with 22 points, hitting two three-pointers and going 4-for-8 at the free throw line. Keigan Ingram added 8 points with 2-of-4 shooting at the line. Riley Smith hit for 7 with one free throw. Ashton Potter and Cade Hudyma added 4 points each. Jordan Cook, KJ Ingram and Toryn Richards added 2 points a piece. As a team, Glasgow hit 40.2 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the line.

Glasgow had nine fouls in the game. Cook, Smith, KJ Ingram and Richards each had two while Potter, Babb and Ke. Ingram drew two whistles a piece.

Babb also led in rebounds with 10, three offensive, while Smith and Ke. Ingram grabbed six boards each. Richards and Hudyma had four a piece with Cook pulling three rebounds. Potter and KJ Ingram had one board each.

Ke. Ingram had three steals and three blocks while Babb had two steal and one block. Cook also notched three steals with Smith, Potter, Richards and KJ Ingram adding one a piece to the books.

Babb turned in four assists with nine turnovers followed by Smith, Richards and Ke. Ingram with two assists each and Cook with one helper. Smith had three turnovers, Richards two, Ke. Ingram two, KJ Ingram six and Cook two giveaways.

Glasgow's JV team handily won their game 67-32 after leading 19-8 after one, 30-16 at the half and 53-16 heading into the final quarter.

Hudyma led the squad with 30 points, hitting 4-of-5 at the line. Myles Yoakam added 13 with 3-of-4 shooting on bonus shots. Connor Hudyma and Vaughn Miller each hit for 8 and Andy Hansen added 6 points. Noah Runner added a basket.

The Scottie C squad fell 62-47 in their contest. They led 12-11 after one, trailed 23-21 at the half and were behind 41-34 heading into the fourth quarter.

Davis Tolzien led the team with 19 point followed by Wyatt Sugg with 10 points. Cam Nelson and Trey Graham both hit for 7 while Kyler Whitman and Klay Cornwell scored 2 points each.

The Scotties came out stronger at home on Saturday, outscoring Poplar 16-3 in the first quarter. The Indians put up 20 in the second while holding Glasgow to 11, giving the Scotties a 27-23 lead at the half. Glasgow returned to the hardwood after the break to put up 18 while holding the Indians to 10 for a 45-33 lead heading into the last quarter. They outscored the visitors 14-12 in the final eight minutes.

Babb led all scorers with 22 points, hitting a trey and going 3-for-6 at the line. Smith put up 12 with a 2-for-3 showing at the stripe and Ke. Ingram hit 1-of-1 bonus shots on his way to 11 points. KJ Ingram added 5 with a three-pointer and Cook hit two from the floor. Potter drained a trey and Richards added a bucket. Richards and Cook hit 100 percent shooting from the floor while Smith hit 62.5, Babb 56.3 and Ke. Ingram 50 percent.

Glasgow had 11 fouls in the game, four in the second half, while 10 of Poplar's 11 came in the second half. KJ Ingram had four while Cook, Richards and Ke. Ingram had two fouls each. Babb drew a single whistle.

Ke. Ingram pulled down 12 rebounds for Glasgow, four offensive. Smith and Babb had seven boards each followed by KJ Ingram, 4; Potter, 2, and Cook and Ca. Hudyma, one each.

Babb led in assist with four, turning the ball over three times. KJ Ingram had two assists, three turnovers; Potter two assists, three turnovers; Cook two assists; Smith one assist, one turnover, and Ke. Ingram one assist.

KJ Ingram had three steals for Glasgow while Babb had two takeaways. Smith added two blocks to the stats with Babb stopping one Poplar shot.

Glasgow's C and JV teams contributed to a Poplar sweep.

The JV team won 75-41 after trailing 14-13 at the end of one, leading 29-18 at the half and 54-29 after three quarters.

Yoakam put up 17 points with three treys and Co. Hudyma added 15 with a free throw. Rex Monson hit for 10 and Nick Solorzano 9 points. Runner and Miller added 8 each with Ca.Hudyma hitting three bonus shots and Cook a bucket.

The Scottie C squad led in all four quarters, including a fourth quarter shutout: 14-6, 32-10, 44-12 and 56-12.

Tolzien owned the paint with 14 points while Sugg hit for 12 with four free throws. Nelson and Hanson added 11 each with Nelson hitting a three-pointer and Hanson a free throw. Jorden Wilsen added two field goals, Cornwell 3 points with a free throw and Graham went 1-for-2 at the line.

Glasgow is home this week with two match-ups against Class A teams.
