Nashua's boys basketball team improved their conference record to 2-1, 5-3 overall, with wins over Frazer (conference) and Brockton (non-conference) this past week. The Porcupines defeated the Bearcubs 70-35 and downed the Warriors 65-32 in a pair of home games.
Frazer was in town Friday night and Nashua quickly established home court advantage with an 18-5 lead at the end of the first. They outscored Frazer 17-13 in the second quarter. The Porcupines led 55-26 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Grady Nielsen led Nashua with 24 points, including a three-pointer and 5-of-6 shooting at the free throw line. He also had 21 rebounds for a double-double. Xander Pugh added 22 points with 3-for-4 shooting at the line and a trey. Caden Laumeyer hit for 9 points with one free throw. Kevan Viste went 4-for-4 at the line and added 8 points. Bubba Pugh scored 4, Damon Adkins 2 and John Grimes 1 point.
Nashua had 12 fouls, nine in the second half, while Frazer was called for 20, 13 in the second half.
Adkins and B. Pugh were called for four each while X. Pugh had two fouls. Nielsen and Laumeyer drew one whistle each.
The Porcupines hosted the Warriors Saturday and posted another win after leading all four quarters. Nashua went up 9-6 after one and increased their lead to 15 points by the half, 23-8. They outscored Brockton 21-9 in the third quarter and 21-15 in the final eight minutes.
X. Pugh led the Porcupines with 25 points. Nielsen added 17 with 21 rebounds for another double double. Viste scored 9 while Laumeyer added 6 points. B. Pugh hit for 4, Adkins 3 and Jackson Abern 1 point.
Nashua hosted Dodson Jan. 10 but scores were unavailable at press time.
The Porcupines take on the Spartans in Scobey this Friday, Jan. 13. The JV girls tip off at 4 p.m. followed by a JV boys game at 5 p.m., both half games. Varsity girls play at 6 p.m. with the varsity boys playing at 7:30 p.m.
