Lustre Girls Split Games

Lustre Christian's girls basketball team improved their record to 2-1 conference, 3-6 overall, in their first week back on the hardwood after the holiday break. The Lions fell to Bainville 63-30 at home Tuesday but rebounded with a 52-39 win over the Bearcubs in Frazer Saturday.

The Bulldogs took a 14-10 lead over the Lions in the first eight minutes in Lustre Jan. 5. Lustre trailed by 15 at the half, 32-17. Bainville outscored their hosts by nine points in the final two quarters, 15-6 in the third and 16-7 in the fourth.

Alexa Reddig led the Lions with 14 points, going 2-for-4 at the free throw line. Grace Brown added 7 and Aubri Holzrichter hit for 5, both with a free throw. Hannah Brown scored 4 with 2-of-3 shooting at the stripe.

Bainville had 13 fouls while Lustre Christian held their infractions to 10, split evenly between the halves.

H. Brown and G. Brown were each called for three while Abby Olfert drew two whistles. Reddig and Holzrichter had one foul each.

The Lions traveled to Frazer Saturday where they took a 10-point lead after one quarter, 16-6. The Bearcubs fought back in the second with 10 points while holding the Lions to 5 for a 21-16 Lustre lead at the half. Lustre outscored Frazer in both remaining quarter – 16-11 in the third and 15-12 in the fourth – for their conference victory.

G. Brown led the Lions with a strong performance in the key, putting up 20 points and going 4-for-6 on free throws. Reddig added 18 points with 5-for-8 shooting at the line and three-pointer. Holzrichter hit a trey and added 11 total points.

Frazer had 14 fouls while Lustre held theirs to eight, five in the second half.

G. Brown drew three whistles while H. Brown had two fouls. Olfert, Holzrichter and Hope Marottek drew the officials' attention once each.

The Lions travel to Saco Friday, Jan. 13, to play the North Country Mavericks. The girls JV teams will tip off at 4 while the boys JV teams play at 5 p.m., both half games. The girls varsity game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the boys varsity game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, the Lions host the Dodson Coyotes. The boys JV teams hit the court at 2 p.m. followed by a girls varsity tip off at 3:30 p.m. and the boys varsity game at 5 p.m.
