Lustre Boys Remain Undefeated

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team added two wins in their return to the court after the holiday break, improving their record to 3-0 in the conference, 9-0 overall. The Lions defeated Bainville 65-39 at home Tuesday in a non-conference matchup. They rolled over the Bearcubs 89-15 in Frazer Saturday night.

The Lions held a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Bulldogs 19-4 in the second quarter. Bainville rallied in the third quarter with 17 points while holding Lustre to 15, giving the Lions a 51-32 lead heading into the final quarter. Lustre Christian put up 14 in the final eight minutes and held the Bulldogs to 7 points.

Elijah Lenihan led the Lions squad with 21 points, including a shot from downtown. Cayden Klatt added 12 with 1-for-2 shooting at the free throw line and a three-pointer. Jasiah Hambira connected for 8 points and Johnslee Pierre added 6 points. Braden Ewing and Byron Ewing both hit for 5 points, with Br. Ewing going 3-for-3 at the line and By. Ewing hitting 1-of-2 free throws. Cam Reddig and Alex Chen each hit a shot from beyond the arc.

Bainville had nine fouls while Lustre was called for 10, split evenly between the halves. Br. Ewing drew four whistles, Bryan Chen three, Klatt two and Hambira one.

The Lions traveled to Frazer Saturday where they rolled to a dominant 29-0 lead after one quarter and rotating through the entire roster. Frazer found the net in the second with 7 points but Lustre continued to own the court with 31 points for a 60-7 lead at the half and a running clock. Lustre increased their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Frazer 22-5, with several dunks. Lustre held Frazer to a single trey in the final eight minutes while putting 7 points on their side of the scoreboard.

Hambira led the offensive onslaught with 18 points, including 4-of-6 shooting at the line. Br. Ewing was right behind him with 16, hitting 6-of-6 bonus shots. The two big men also dropped several shots from directly above the rim. Cam Reddig and Alex Chen both hit double digits with 11 points each. Reddig hit 6-of-7 free throws and Chen sunk two shots from beyond the arc.

Johnslee Pierre scored 8 and Diek Olfert added 7 with 3-for-4 shooting at the line. By. Ewing added 5 while Gabe Alves and Lenihan both scored 4 points. Klatt hit a trey and Prestyn Klatt added a field goal.

The Bearcubs had 16 fouls while the Lions held their infractions to six. C. Klatt, B. Chen, Reddig, A. Chen, P. Klatt and Nathan Fast each drew a whistle.

The Lions travel to Saco Friday, Jan. 13, to play the North Country Mavericks. The girls JV teams will tip off at 4 while the boys JV teams play at 5 p.m., both half games. The girls varsity game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the boys varsity game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, the Lions host the Dodson Coyotes. The boys JV teams hit the court at 2 p.m. followed by a girls varsity tip off at 3:30 p.m. and the boys varsity game at 5 p.m.
