Hot Dawgs Pick Up Two Cool Wins

The high school Ice Dawgs added two to the Win column this past weekend. Glasgow defeated visiting Bozeman Ice Dogs 6-3 Friday night and 4-1 Saturday morning at the Valley Event Center.

Friday night the first period proved a quiet one as neither team scored. Bozeman kicked off the action in the second period with a goal just 40 seconds into play. The visiting Dogs scored again with just 7:25 left before the intermission.

Michael Hoyer put the Dawgs on the board with 1:12 left in the period on an even-strength goal. Tavin Boland tied the game with an assist from Mason Hunter 19 seconds before the buzzer sounded.

Glasgow took control of the game in the third with four straight goals. Hoyer found the back of the net 4:45 into the third and Tristan Powell scored, assist Boland, less than three minutes later. Bode Barnett found the back of the net with 5:12 left on the clock with help from Hoyer and Boland scored again 10 seconds after that with help from Peyton Hubbard and Dillon Hughes. Bozeman got a puck past Dawgs' netminder Aidin Wilkowski with 11 seconds left to play, for the 6-3 final score.

Wilkowski turned away 24 shots on his net for an 88.9 save percentage. Glasgow's offense threw 38 pucks at the Ice Dogs' goalie in the win.

Bozeman had five infractions for 10 minutes in the penalty box while Glasgow served 12 minutes in the sin bin on six penalties.

Boland served two minutes for hooking and two for tripping in the first period while Zevin Kummerfeldt took an involuntary seat on a minor penalty. Hoyer, hooking; Connor Koski, roughing, and Charlie Cornwell, roughing, all served two in the second period.

The teams faced off again at 10 a.m. Saturday where Glasgow established an early lead. Hoyer again started the scoring action, finding the back of the net on a power play with an assist from Tatum Hansen 2:55 into the game. Bozeman tied the game up just over two minutes later but Barnett hit a shortie with help from Hoyer with 2:07 left in the period with Hughes in the box on an interference call.

Hoyer scored again in the second, assist Hubbard, with 3:49 left to play before intermission. Barnett took Glasgow's lead to three goals with 1:44 left on the clock.

Both Bozeman's and Glasgow's goalies turned in a flawless third period with Glasgow putting 10 shots on the Dogs' net and Wilkowski turning away six Bozeman attempts. Wilkowski had a 94.7 save percentage in the win, turning away 18 of 19 shots.

Bozeman had five penalties, one of which Glasgow converted on. The Dawgs' special teams put in some work, shutting down all seven of Bozeman's man advantages.

Hughes sat for interference in the first period. Mason Hunter served two minutes on three calls, cross-checking, unsportsmanlike conduct, and interference in the second period, while Hansen, interference, also saw time in the box. Boland, unsportsmanlike conduct, and Powell, roughing, served time in the third period.

The Ice Dawgs are on the road this week, traveling to Flathead for a double header. Glasgow hits the ice at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, and at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14.
