The Frazer girls basketball team dropped both of their conference games in the week after the holiday break, giving them an 0-2 conference record, 2-5 overall. The Bearcubs fell 44-32 to the Porcupines in Nashua Friday before losing 52-39 at home to the Lustre Christian Lions the following night.
Frazer found themselves behind 12-4 after one quarter in Nashua and trailing 21-11 at the half. The Bearcubs outscored the Porcupines 12-3 in the third quarter but Nashua answered with 20 in the final eight minutes while holding Frazer to 9 points.
Audrey Smoker led the Bearcubs with 11 points with a three-pointer and a 4-for-6 performance at the free throw line. Angelina White added 7 and Angel Nelligan hit two downtown shots for 6 points. Baily Beston scored 5 and Shakira Beston added a trey.
Nashua held their fouls to 12 while the Bearcubs ran into trouble with 19 infractions, 12 in the second half.
B. Beston fouled out while Isabelle Even, Smoker and Nelligan drew four whistles a piece. Lola Romero and White had one foul each.
The following night, Frazer again found themselves behind at the end of the first, 16-6. They outscored Lustre Christian 10-6 in the second giving the visiting Lions a 21-16 lead going into the second half. The Bearcubs hit double digits in both the remaining quarters, scoring 11 and 12 in the third and fourth, but Nashua hit for 16 and 15 in the same frames.
B. Beston led Frazer with 12 points, going 2-for-3 at the charity stripe. Angeline White added 11 with a free throw. S. Beston hit two three-pointers and Smoker added another 6 with a trey and a free throw. Nelligan also drained a shot from downtown.
The Lions were called for 8 fouls while the Bearcubs had 14, nine in the second half.
White had four fouls while Even, Nelligan and B. Beston drew three whistles a piece. S. Beston had one fouls.
Frazer travels to Dodson Friday, Jan. 13, to take on the Coyotes. Both teams currently have a 0-2 conference record. The girls game is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7 p.m. The Bearcubs host the North Country Mavericks Saturday, Jan. 14, for a girls varsity game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
