Frazer's boys basketball team had a tough return to the court after the holiday break, facing the top two teams in the district. The Bearcubs fell to Nashua on the road Friday by a 70-35 score. They faced the top-seeded and undefeated Lustre Christian Lions, the following night at home where they lost 89-15.
Frazer trailed Nashua 18-5 at the end of the first. The Bearcubs rallied in the second with 13 points, but the Porcupines answered with 17 to carry a 35-18 lead into the second half. Frazer was outscored 20-8 in the third and 15-9 in the final eight minutes.
Ty Fourstar and Joseph Beston both hit double digits for Frazer. Fourstar hit for 13 points with 3-of-3 shooting at the free throw line while Beston added 10 with two shots from downtown. Travis Long added 7 points and Jarvis Goodbird scored 5 points with a trey.
Nashua held their fouls to 12 while Frazer ran into trouble with 20 fouls. Long and GoodBird both fouled out of the game and Beston was called for four infractions. Zayden Hentges had three while Fourstar drew the officials' attention twice and Chris Fox had one foul.
The Bearcubs faced an even steeper challenge at home the following night, taking on a Lions team with a deep bench.
Frazer was shut out in the first quarter while Lustre Christian hit for 29 points, playing all 14 members of the team. Cassius Smoker got the Bearcubs' offense going in the second where they put up 7 points, but the Lions continued to burn up the nets with 31 points. Frazer faced an 82-12 deficit going into the fourth quarter where they were outscored 7-3.
Fourstar and Long both hit for 5 points with a three-pointer each. GoodBird also hit one from downtown and Smoker had one field goal.
Lustre held their fouls to six while Frazer had 16 infractions, six in the second half.
Beston fouled out of the game while Long and GoodBird had three fouls each. Fourstar and Zayden Hentges drew two whistles each while Smoker had one foul.
Frazer travels to Dodson Friday, Jan. 13, to take on the Coyotes. Both teams currently have a 0-2 conference record. The girls game is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7 p.m. The Bearcubs host the North Country Mavericks Saturday, Jan. 14, for a girls varsity game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
