The Lustre Christian boys basketball team defeated the Spartans 46-38 in Scobey Dec. 20. The Lions waged a come-from-behind battle to earn the victory.
Lustre led by a point, 8-7, at the end of the first quarter while Scobey rallied in the second with 13 points to lead 20-18 at the half. The Spartans increased their lead to 4 points, 30-26, in the third quarter but the Lions proved themselves in the final eight minutes with a 20-point performance.
Jasiah Hambira scored 13 points in leading Lustre Christian with 1-of-2 shooting at the line. Elijah Lenihan added 9 points with a three-pointer and 2-of-2 shooting at the stripe. Braden Ewing connected on 2-of-2 bonus shots on his way to 8 points for Lustre Christian. Cayden Klatt and Byran Ewing both hit for 7 points, with Klatt netting a trey and Ewing draining 1-of-2 free throws. Clay Reddig also scored a bucket in the critical fourth quarter.
The Spartans were called for 15 fouls, eight in the second half. Lustre drew the officials' attention 11 times, with five whistles in the second half.
Hambira and By. Ewing were called for three fouls. Bryan Chen and Br. Ewing drew two whistles each and Lenihan had one foul.
The Lions return to the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, in Frazer. The boys varsity team tip off at 7 p.m. following the girls varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
