Scottie Boys 0-2 in Class A Road Games

Glasgow’s boys basketball team dropped both their games against Class A opponents Sidney and Glendive this past weekend. The Scotties lost in overtime to the Eagles Friday night by a 57-54 margin and fell 79-55 to the Red Devils Saturday.

“We were missing lots of players this weekend with the flu,” said head coach Paul Yoakam while finding the silver lining, “but a lot of others gained some good experience.”

Despite being down players, the Scotties held tight with the Eagles Friday night. They trailed by a single point after the first eight minutes, 11-10. Glasgow was outscored 15-12 in the second quarter but came out strong after the half to lead 34-33 after three. Sidney edged Glasgow by a point in the fourth to send the game into extra time knotted at 47-47.

The Scotties put up 7 points in overtime but the Eagles hit for 10 to win.

Wyatt Babb led Glasgow with 22 points, including four shots from downtown, hitting 45.5 percent from the floor. Keigan Ingram also hit a trey and added 14 points with a 61.1 shot percentage from the floor. Riley Smith hit 4-of-5 free throws and had a 42.9 shot percentage from the court, scoring 8 total points for Glasgow. Jordan Cook added 5, with a three-pointer, and Cade Hudyma scored 4 points. Ashton Potter hit a free throw.

Glasgow had 15 fouls, nine in the second half, while Sidney drew 17 calls. Ingram drew four whistles and Babb three. Potter and Smith each had two fouls while Nick Solorzano, Cook, Connor Hudyma and Ca. Hudyma held their fouls to one each.

Smith grabbed nine rebounds, six offensive, in leading Glasgow on the boards. Ingram and Hudyma pulled down five rebounds each while Potter and Solorzano had four each. Babb had three boards.

Solorzano led in assists with five with no turnovers. Potter and Babb added two assists each with Potter turning over the ball twice and Babb giving it up six times. Smith, Cook and Co. Huyma each added an assist. Smith had four turnovers, Potter two and Co. Hudyma one. Smith, Potter and Ingram each added a steal to the stats sheet.

The Scottie JV team won their game in Sidney by a 43-38 score. Ca. Hudyma led the team with 15 while Co. Hudyma added 11 points. Andy Hansen hit for 9 with three from beyond the arc. Trey Graham scored 4 while Rex Monson and Wyatt Sugg each had 2 points.

Glasgow’s C squad lost their match 55-47. Graham led with 10 points followed by Cam Nelson with 8 points. Sugg and Braxton Potter both hit for 7 while Noah Leckie added 6 points. Davis Tolzien scored 4, Kyler Whitman hit a trey, and Jordan Wilson and Klay Cornwell both added a bucket.

Glasgow stayed tight with Glendive in the first half the next night, but the Red Devils fired up the offense after the break for the win. The Scotties led 16-13 at the end of the first and trailed by a single point at the half, 28-27. Glendive outscored Glasgow 23-16 in the third and 26-12 in the final eight minutes.

Babb again led Glasgow in points, hitting 47.4 percent from the court for 21 points with two three-pointers. Smith added 14 points with a trey and a 91.7 shot percentage. Cook scored 13 points on three from downtown and 4-of-8 shooting at the line. Ca. Hudyma added 6 points.

Glendive was called for 16 fouls while Glasgow had 18, split evenly between the halves. Cook and Smith both drew four whistles while A. Potter and Co. Hudyma had three fouls each. Ca. Hudyma had two infractions while Solorzano and Babb had one a piece.

A. Potter had four assists, with one turnover and one steal, to lead the Scotties. Babb added four assists also but with eight turnovers. Solorzano had three helpers with two turnovers while Cook had three assists and four turnovers. Smith had two assists, one turnover and one steal.

Smith led in boards with seven followed by Co. Hudyma with six and Babb with five boards. Cook grabbed four, Potter and Ca. Hudyma two each, and Solorzano one rebound.

Glasgow’s JV team lost their game 66-49. Ca. Hudyma put up 19 points with 9-for-16 shooting on bonus shots. Monson added 9 points, all from downtown and Graham hit for 8 with two treys and a 2-for-2 performance at the line. Hansen hit 4-of-6 free throws and a trey for 7 points. Nelson hit a three-pointer and Noah Runner added field goal.

The Scottie C squad won their game 39-32, led by Leckie’s 11 point show with 9-of-11 free throws. Tolzien added 8 points, Sugg 7, Nelson 5 and Graham 4 points. Cornwell and B. Potter each hit a bucket and Wilson added a free throw.

Glasgow’s Color Rush Night game (both teams will wear their road colors) against Malta was scheduled for Dec. 22 but will be postponed to January, date to be announced, due to weather.

After the break, the Scotties hit the hardwood Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, in Saco against the North Country Mavericks and Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at home against the Scobey Spartans.
