The Lustre Christian girls basketball team split their games over the weekend. The Lions defeated Nashua 33-23 at home before losing 63-25 on the road in Culbertson.
Lustre held a 9-6 lead after one and increased their lead to 6 points at the half, 17-11. Nashua outscored Lustre 6-4 in the third but the Lions fought back with 10 in the fourth while holding the Porcupines to 6 points.
Aubri Holzrichter led the Lions with 11 points, including a three-pointer. Alexa Reddig added 9, going 3-for-6 at the line. Hannah Brown hit for 7 points, including a three-pointer and 2-for-2 shooting at the charity stripe. Grace Brown added a bucket and two free throws and Abby Olfert hit a field goal.
Lustre was called for 10 fouls, 10 in the second half, while Nashua had 17 fouls, seven in the second half.
Reddig, Holzrichter and H. Brown drew four whistles each. G. Brown had two fouls and Olfert had one.
The Lions faced a tougher game on the road the next night, trailing Culbertson 17-3 at the end of the first. Lustre put up 12 in the second, but their hosts scored 14 points. The Lions were outscored 10-8 in the final eight minutes of play.
Holzrichter scored 11 points, hitting three from downtown. Reddig added 8, going 2-for-2 at the line. Lauryn Holzrichter hit a three-pointer and G. Brown went 3-for-4 at the charity stripe.
Culbertson was called for13 fouls, eight in the second half, while Lustre Christian had 14 infractions, 11 in the second half.
G. Brown drew four whistles while A. Holzrichter and Hope Marotteck had three fouls each. Reddig and H. Brown each had two fouls.
Lustre Christian was scheduled to host Bainville Dec. 19 and travel to Scobey Dec. 20. The story will appear in next week's Courier.
The Lions are next scheduled to play in Frazer Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, for a 5:30 varsity girls game followed by the boys varsity game at 7 p.m.
