County Voting

Dear Valley County Voters,

Elections are still in the news. After our last election, Stan Ozark reported over 700 mail ballots were not returned. That is sad and shameful. Voting is our responsibility. Stan also made mention, maybe impressed, that the majority of votes in Valley County are absentee (mail) ballots. Well, no wonder! Several years back, the commissioners approved the Election Administrators request to combine all polling places into Glasgow, in order to save the cost of voting machines in each community.

I am sorry to say, I was one of those Commissioners. What I should have done was to push for throwing all those machines in the landfill and approved hiring more election workers to hand count ballots. We have now changed the voting culture of our county. We no longer take time to go vote, maybe see our neighbors, go to one of the churches for pie and coffee and argue who to vote for.

I doubt our present commissioners will be interested in changing back.

So...... my sincere apology to Valley County voters. That is one vote I would love to have back!
