Fourteen soldiers from the Montana Army National Guard's 484th Military Police Company, headquartered in Malta, were expected to return to Montana on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The soldiers were scheduled to return to the Billings International Airport on United Airlines Flight 579 at 12:42 p.m.

Pat Gunderson, a 23-year veteran of the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks, is retiring from the agency on Nov. 30. Instead of kicking back and taking it easy, however, Gunderson will immediately take a new position as manager of the Federal Bureau of Land Management's Glasgow Field Office.

A winter storm bearing freezing rain and snow left Montana roads a slippery mess last week. A particularly perilous piece was a 14-mile stretch of rolling hills on U.S. 2 between Saco and Hinsdale, which locals call the Saco Divide. There were three wrecks of semi-trailers in three days in that area.The most spectacular one was on Thursday, Nov. 15, involving a shipment of military grade explosives headed for Minot AFB in North Dakota. The semi was pulling a enclosed trailer loaded with 36,000 pounds of bombs.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks staff collected 574,229 Chinook Salmon eggs this fall from adult fish that were attempting to spawn in Fort Peck Reservoir. That didn't beat the record of 610,230 eggs collected in 2010, but it came close, said Heath Headley, the reservoirs' fisheries biologist. The number also was about double the eggs collected last year.

Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997

Valley County Sheriff Dick Britzman announced this week that his department has hired Bob Tymofichuk, former Chief of Police in Opheim. He said Valley County will now provide law enforcement services to Opheim.

Marine Pvt. Jeremy A. Bunk, son of Michael and Bonnie Bunk of Glasgow, who recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif., graduated on Oct. 10.

The 1997 Harvest Festival Queens are Cecelia Ross, Doris Nygaard, Maybelle Christinson, Mildred Ellison, Myrtle Burke, Naomi Sirucek, Peggy Czyzeski, Rose Brockel, Susan Schuler, Velma Nelson.

The Glasgow Scotties finally broke out of their slump and won the District 2B Championship in dominating form. The girls ran rampant over their opponents en-route to a title game thrashing of the Malta M-ettes. Malta has always won the title since Glasgow made the switch to Class B.

Thursday, Nov. 23, 1972

Sale of all stock in Glasgow Publishing Co., Inc., which publishes The Glasgow Courier, was announced today by Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Smith, owners since Jan. 1964. General manager and publisher of the newspaper with the Dec. 7 issue will be Clifford W. Cox, who has been assistant to the publisher of the newspaper of the Camarillo, Calif., Daily News. Cox will take over his duties Dec. 1 when the sale become effective.

Glasgow's third annual downtown Christmas tree arrived this week, just in time for the "Wonderful World of Christmas" celebration that starts in the Bonnie City on Friday.

Debra Irving of Glasgow Senior High School placed first in the senior division in the district "Make It Yourself With Wool" contest in Wolf Point Saturday heading the list of 10 local home economics students recognized at the annual event. Miss Irving will participate in the upcoming state competition in Billings.

Capt. David L. Hanson, son of Les Hanson of Glasgow, earns the Air Force commendation medal and citation for meritorious service as a wing select missile combat crew commander, standardization division, 564th Strategic Missile Squadron, Malmstrom Air Force Base, From July 1, 1966 to July 16, 1972.

Thursday, Nov. 20, 1947

Coach Harold Meyer reported this week that 43 men from the four Glasgow High School classes are working out for the Scotties' 1947-48 basketball squad.

Seventeen Valley County pilots and their passengers made a Valley County air tour Sunday under sponsorship of the Montana Pilots association, and reported a successful flight in spite of adverse weather conditions.

Highway Patrolman Hugh Borton returned Friday from Helena after competing a six-week training course directed by Charles L. Sheridan, patrol supervisor. Patrolman Borton will now be stationed here permanently for patrol work.

Ed Zvonar was re-elected president of the Nashua Farmers Union Oil Company at the annual stockholders' meeting in the Royal Neighbor hall last Wednesday. Others re-elected were Vice President Hartvig Garsjo and Director Otto Rawe.
