The Bantam Ice Dawgs started the 2022-23 season with a tournament in Sidney this past weekend. The Dawgs posted a 1-2-1 record in their season debut and brought home third place.
Glasgow fell to Watford City by an 8-3 margin in game one Friday evening. Their game against Richland Saturday morning ended in a 6-6 draw. The Dawgs rebounded with an 8-0 victory over the Williston B team that afternoon. The win pitted them against Richland in a rematch which saw Richland again come out on top, 4-2.
Glasgow took an early lead in their first game – 3-1 in the first – but Watford City waged a comeback with three goals in the second and four in the third to defeat the Dawgs.
Jacob Potter, in net for Glasgow, faced 53 attempts on his goal for a 66.0 save percentage. The Dawgs put 21 shots on Watford City’s net.
Glasgow’s goals came from Brody Hansen, unassisted; Jack Miller, assist Hudson Honey, and Landon Honey, assist Halle Hunter.
The Dawgs were called for five infractions while Watford City had two penalties. Hansen served two minutes for roughing in the first and was called for a 2-and-10 boarding and misconduct in the third. Gryffen Collins served two in the second period for tripping and Carter Holte sat for two minutes on a tripping call in the third.
Glasgow hit the ice the next morning against host team Richland for a game in which each period was a tie: each team put up one goal in the first, three in the second and two in the third.
Richland lit the lamp first while short-handed but L. Honey, assist Collins, used their man advantage to tie the game. Hansen gave Glasgow the lead in the second before Richland tied it. He put them ahead again before Richland scored two in a row for their brief lead. Hansen tied the game again before intermission. The third period went Glasgow-Richland-Glasgow-Richland in scoring order with Hansen and L. Honey, assist Collins, getting the Dawgs’ goals.
The Dawgs put 28 shots on Richland’s net while Potter turned away 17 shots for a 73.9 save percentage.
Glasgow had only one penalty in the game – Collins, tripping in the first – while Richland had four infractions.
The Dawgs played Williston B that afternoon and cruised to a shut-out win.
L. Honey put Glasgow on the scoreboard early in the first followed by three goals from Hansen with an assist from L. Honey on the second. Hansen found the back of the net once in the second to pad the Dawgs’ lead. Holte, unassisted; Miller, assist Hunter, and Hansen scored for Glasgow in the third.
Each team had only one penalty. Collins served two in the second for cross-checking.
Potter saw only 13 attempts on his net while his teammates threw 46 pucks at Williston’s netminder.
On Sunday Glasgow faced off against Richland again. The teams tied in the first period with one a piece. Hansen scored first in the game and for Glasgow. Richland added a go-ahead goal and an insurance goal in the second period before both teams put up one in the final period. Hansen netted a power play goal for Glasgow.
The Dawgs served time for four infractions while Richland was sent to the box twice. Hunter was cited with a 2-and-10 for checking from behind in the first and Hansen served time for interference, also in the first. Collins was called for tripping in the second period.
Potter turned away 11 shots for a 73.3 save percentage while Glasgow’s offense put 26 pucks on net at the other end of the ice.
Glasgow hosts the Bozeman Ice Dogs Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4. The Dawg fight starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 followed by an 8 a.m. rematch Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Valley Event Center.
