A new deputy joined the Valley County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. Alex Estavez, who hails from Miles City, has a year and half of experience with the Sidney Police Department and a reserve deputy in Custer County before that.

The Glasgow City Council has accepted the recommendation of a Selection Committee and awarded the city's Growth Policy project to DJ&A P.C., an engineering, planning, and surveying firm in Glasgow and Missoula.

In just one year, drought has turned around the brimming lake levels in the Missouri River reservoirs. From the highest runoff on record last summer, 61 million acre/feet (MAF), the September 2012 runoff is the lowest recorded in more than a century.

Independence Bank is pleased to announce that Dawn Crowder has been promoted to Vice President of Operations and Finance. She has been with Independence Bank since 2000. Prior to her promotion, Crowder had served as Assistant Vice President of finance, finance officer and as a real estate loan officer at the bank.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) and Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT), announced the Senate unanimously passed a bill which authorizes a $10 million appropriation for the construction of the Fort Peck Interpretive Center. This provision was passed by the Senate earlier this year in a bill which provided for improvements at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. However the Fort Peck provision was stripped in the Conference Committee, necessitating a free-standing bill.

Once again the Friends of The Pioneer Museum is looking for support to raise approximately $500,000 for their building project. Volunteers put together 10,000 envelopes to be mailed out, in hopes of reaching all of those who have lived in Valley County or still live here.

Valley View Home, an 88- bed skilled nursing facility, offers a certified nursing assistant program. Primary care givers such as that of the certified nursing assistant in skilled nursing facilities who assist residents with their tasks of activities, of daily living such as that as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating and mobility, are required by federal mandate to be certified.

Valley View Home has a new bird aviary. This one is located in the Sunshine Square area. This was made possible by the Grobel Family, who donated money to Valley View in memory of Mary Grobel Honigstock. The employees of Valley View decided to invest the money in a bird aviary for the Sunshine Square area since another aviary was already located near the entrance to Valley View. Mary Grobel Honigstock worked at Valley View for 11 years before moving away from Glasgow.

Thursday, Nov. 16, 1972

Valley County Sheriff Frank Powell has resigned his office, effective at midnight Wednesday, and Undersheriff Dan Taylor has been appointed to fill out the two years and two months remaining in Powell's current term in office.

Called, " the only one of its kind" and valued at $50,000 is an art work by Charles Marion Russell that has come to the Montana Historical society as a gift. Donors are Mr. and Mrs. John Baucus' of Helena and Mrs. Baucus' parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred B. Sheriff. " The gift, a Russell model of a stagecoach and six horses, is called " Six Reins to Kingdom come," Sam Gilluly, society director, said " It is unique because, with it, the cowboy artist combined a background painting. The model and painting are now on display in the lobby of the society building near the State Capitol.

Six million acre feet of accumulated flood water has been withdrawn from the Missouri River main stem reservoirs since peak storage level was reached in the system in early July.

A $12,600 project to bring direct distance dialing to Saco and Hinsdale has been announced by J.G. Olsen, manager for Mountain Bell. Special central office equipment will be installed enabling local phones to be switched to centralized automatic message accounting equipment necessary for direct distance dialing. Details of the calls are recorded on a computer tape for billing purposes.

Thursday, Nov. 13, 1947

The McLaughlin Construction company of Livingston, has completed its work at the Fort Peck powerhouse. It was announced by Col. E. H. Walter, district engineer of the Fort Peck district, corps of engineers.

Rep. Wesley A. D'Ewart's office said the Montana republican has recommended the approval of funds for installation of an additional 35,000 kilowatt generating unit at Fort Peck dam.

State Rep. Resner Blikken of Opheim, who Saturday was elected president of the Montana Association of Rural Electrification Co-operatives at the close of its annual convention in Great Falls. Mr. Blikken has been active in the operation of the Northern Electric Co-op, Inc., and in REA affairs generally.

Scheduled for a December meeting of the state highway commission is a contract calling for construction of eight new bridges on Highway 2 west of Glasgow. Bridge and highway projects scheduled on No. 2 in the county next year have a total estimated cost of $384,000.
