The Army Corp of Engineers has awarded the final round of contracts for repairs throughout the Missouri River basin following the flood of 2011. The final repair bill for the Corps' Omaha District totaled $360 million. Levee rehabilitation work came to $160 million and repairs to damages at the six main-stem dam projects totaled $200 million. The work on 15 Levee systems is expected to be complete by the spring of 2013. Completion of work on the dams will take a year or more longer. Six projects totaling more than $56 million were awarded for construction on the Fort Peck Dam and power plant.

The Northeast Montana Relay for Life held in Glasgow on Aug. 10 was an extremely successful one for our communities. Our Relay for Life was recognized a few weeks ago at the American Cancer Society Great West Division Relay for Life Summit in Billings. The final figures have just come in and the report shows that this year our efforts raised $71,206 distinguishing our relay as the second- highest relay in the division (12 states) in dollars raised per capita.

Cam Shipp, who is the sanitarian for three counties in northeast Montana, was given the 2012 William G. Walter Outstanding Sanitarian Award at the joint annual meeting of the Montana Environmental Health Association and the Montana Public Health Association on Oct. 2 in Butte.

Coming into the game as heavy underdogs, The Glasgow Scotties Football team played their best game of the season beating the defending state champion Fairfield Eagles 27-26 in the first round of the Class B playoffs on Saturday.

Saturday's 12- hour radiothon to benefit the proposed Fort Peck Dam Interpretive Center and Museum raised $55,430.72 from 610 pledgers in Montana, 10 other states and Canada. That doesn't count five- year old Parker Miller's 10 pounds of pennies, which he said he has been collecting for a long time, or the donation in the mail.

Every owner of residential property located within the Valley County Television District No. 1 will now be assessed the TV tax. There no longer will be an exemption for cable subscribers and/or satellite dish owners. The fee is $30 per year, set by the TV District Board, is due on the same day property taxes are payable in November.

Black-footed ferrets returned to the prairie on the Charles M. Russell (CMR) National Wildlife Refuge and Fort Belknap Indian Reservation Wednesday Oct. 15, as part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's recovery efforts for the critically endangered animal. Service Director Jamie Rappaport Clark participated in the ferret reintroduction during a tour of refuges to highlight National Wildlife Refuge Week, which was celebrated Oct. 12-18.

Burlington Northern railroad's action in Glasgow will be opened to the public this Saturday when the Glasgow terminal rolls out the welcome mat to tour facilities and equipment in a special Awareness Day program.

Myron Hammond was named president of the East Hi- Line Hereford Association at its annual meeting and special stocker and feeder sale Oct. 30.

The local school libraries will receive grants totaling $2,283.51 under the ESEA, Title II, program for new books, according to an announcement made at last week's meeting of the board of trustees, district I and IA, in the junior high building.

First National Bank of Glasgow has extended a helping hand to Yellowstone Boys Ranch of Billings by making a $1,200 contribution toward construction of a needed physical education center.

Energizing of 178 miles of REA power lines in the "A" section of the Valley County Electric Co-op's projects was completed Monday, according to Albert Nelson of Hinsdale, president. Farmers in the Hinsdale area received electricity for the first time Monday afternoon.

Erling Voldal, of Fort Peck, was elected president of the northeastern district of the Montana Education association at its annual convention in Glasgow Thursday and Friday succeeding Miss Grace Van Duser of Glasgow. The gathering brought a near- record attendance of 343.

The touchdowns made by Dan Radakovich, former Glasgow High School star, in Montana State University's upset victory over Washington State College in Pullman Saturday make the stocky back current/ top scorer in the Pacific Coast conference. Radakovich has a total of 36 points to his credit this season, and has been called an outstanding offensive player by Coach Doug Feesenden.

The surge tanks at the Fort Peck power plant have been finished to their complete height by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company of Chicago, sub-contractor for the Fegles Construction Company of Minneapolis, it was announced this week by Col. E. H. Walter, district engineer of the Fort Peck District. They consist of three inter-connected steel surge tanks, 40 feet in diameter and rising about 160 feet above the roof of the power plant, or 217 feet about ground level.
