This winter in Eastern Montana might be just what Goldilocks ordered: not to cold, not too dry, just right.

The Glasgow School Board revised its student drug testing policy at the regular meeting on Oct. 10. The original drug testing policy for students participating in any extracurricular activity, adopted in 2009, required that all students in an activity be tested at the beginning of the activity's season. The revised policy is to test 20 percent of the student enrollment randomly during the school year.

The Glasgow City Council at their regular meeting Oct. 15 approved a resolution to pay off the city's 1996 water system revenue bond from the DNRC Revolving Loan Program with remaining 1987 bond issue reserve funds. The remainder of the 1987 reserve funds and the remaining 1996 bond issue reserve funds will be transferred to a restricted cash account. Future transfers of water sale revenues will go into this restricted cash account.

For the third straight year, the Scottie girls reign supreme in Class B Cross Country.

In a letter to Dan Glickman, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT), expressed his strong desire that a recently discovered Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil be kept and displayed in Montana rather than sending it to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The fossil, which was found on a farm near Fort Peck, came under the control of the U.S. Department of Agriculture after the farm was foreclosed on and became the property of the federal government.

Northern Line Layers expect the south side storm drain project to be complete by Wednesday, Nov. 12. It is anticipated crews one and two will be finished laying pipe on approximately Tuesday, Nov. 4. The inlet crews are expected to be done by Tuesday, Nov. 11. Paving of the streets will be completed in the spring.

Mule deer hunters headed south of Glasgow this season won't be able to hunt antler-less mule deer in any part of Hunting District (HD) 630. In official action on Oct. 10, the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Commission closed HD 630 to antler-less mule deer hunting effective Oct. 26. The commission's action reflects concerns that the herd in HD 630 needs additional protection.

The Scottie Football team walked all over the Harlem Wildcats, 48-13, in the final home contest for the Glasgow Seniors.

American Prisoners in North Vietnam should be released before talk of withdrawal, asserted Dale Bond of Brockway, judge advocate of the Department of Montana, VFW, at the Veterans' day program in the Civic Center Monday.

After four months of delay indecision and controversy, Glasgow's new $155,000 swimming pool got the "green light" last week and the project has taken off like a runaway freight train.

A flood protection project on the Milk River and Porcupine Creek at Nashua has apparently died for a lack of local cooperation, according to a letter to The Courier from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield (D-Mont.).

Montana Dakota Utilities Co. has just successfully completed the largest single financial transaction in its history with the sale of $20 million in first mortgage 7 5/8 per cent sinking fund bonds due in 1992. The bond sale was made at competitive bidding with Halsey, Stuart & Co., Inc., Salomon Brothers and Stone & Webster Securities corporation heading the group, The company will pay a net interest of 7.65 per cent.

First shipment of clothing and food to be sent to surviving widows and children of miners killed in a recent disaster in Whitehaven, England will be packed Saturday, Dr. K. R. Steffensen, scoutmaster, reported today.

A state highway department crew that was working west from the North Dakota line through Glasgow last week is using a new type of paint experimentally to be placed on the highway center line. The new paint contains minute quantities of glass, it was explained, and after it has worn on the highway for a time, the glass acts as a reflector when headlight beams hit it.

Several crosswalks have been painted in Glasgow to guide pedestrians and to help prevent accidents, it was pointed out this week by F. V. Melanson, assistant chief of police. Painted crosswalks are on Highway 2 at Fourth and Seventh streets,and also near the underpass, he said.

Fifteen members of Company D of the National Guard were awarded army service medals during drill period in the Civic Center Tuesday night. Awards were made in formation by Maj. C. W. Tazewell of Fort Peck, in the name of the commanding General of the Sixth Army.
