Glasgow Middle School squads take 4th and 5th in Miles City
Glasgow's boys took 4th place and girls 5th place at the biggest meet of the middle school season, the Custer County Invitational in Miles City. The Scottie girls were led, as they have been all season, by 8th grader Haleigh Huntsman, who finished third overall in 9:58, and 6th grader Alexa Ball in 9th place.
The boys were paced by 7th graders Garrett Thompson, who finished 17th in 9:20, and Jack Milam, who finished in 31st place in 9:51. Both efforts resulted in new PRs, or personal records.
On the girls side, 21 schools brought 185 runners to the meet. Glasgow finished behind Poplar, Hardin, Lockwood, and Laurel. The Scotties packed well and established a number of PRs. They include Ball (10:03), Ryder Bilger (78th place in 11:52), Amani Probert (87th in 12:04), Harper Thompson (116th in 12:48), Aspen Probert (119th in 12:55), Willow Sugg (121st in 12:57), and Romie Zumbuhl (152nd in 14:23).
Glasgow's boys took fourth place behind Laurel, Hardin, and Lodge Grass. Behind Thompson and Milam, 8th grader Rowen Kloker took 38th in 9:56.
"We had the best racing weather of our season, cool and drizzly, and the Town & Country Club golf course in Miles City is flat and always fast," says head coach Andrew McKean. "We made the best of it, and the kids competed well against a huge field."
Glasgow boys who notched PRs in Miles City included Ian Anderson, 40th in 9:56; Holt Huntsman, 47th in 10:16; Daniel Bailey, 116th in 12:07; Paxton Wesen, 120th in 12:12; Alex Earll, 136th in 13:33; Jett Johnson, 156th in 15:33; and Jacob Bishop, 157th in 15:35.
The Scotties were in Frazer on Tuesday afternoon for a meet that was postponed from last month. They will be in Sidney on Saturday, Oct. 8, at another big meet. The middle school squads end their season in Harlem on Oct. 14.
Correction
In the Sept. 21 issue of The Glasgow Courier, Glasgow Middle School runner was misidentified in the Glasgow Middle School Cross Country photo. The middle schooler pictured is eighth-grader Rowen Kloker.
The Glasgow Courier regrets this error.
Football
The Glasgow Middle School football teams combined forces for their one game against the Havre 8s Oct. 1 in Glasgow. The Scotties won the tilt 28-0. Head coach Trint Gamas said he was able to play all his kids – seventh and eighth graders – in the victory.
Volleyball
The Glasgow Middle School volleyball team concluded their season Oct. 1 at the Northeast District Tournament in Poplar.
The Scotties won their first game against Wolf Point 25-9, 25-15. The squad then fell to Harlem 25-20, 20-25, 14-16 in the championship after leading 13-9 at one point in the final set. Head coach Danae Sheeran said the team had too many missed serves which cost the Scotties.
