The Valley County Jail accepted six prisoners from the Miles City Detention Center on Monday, the first to arrive under a contract to board here. Sheriff Glen Meier said he expects to see an average of ten Custer County inmates.
Nashua residents gathered in their Civic Center last Thursday to discuss a possible solution to the chronic blockage of the train crossing: an overpass on the west end of town.
Tom Klotz, the longtime Administrator of Valley View Home, tendered his resignation, effective Nov. 30, at a meeting of the Board of Directors last Wednesday. "After more than 20 years, it's time to let somebody else take the reins," Klotz told The Courier on Tuesday.
With 22 teams in attendance, the most ever, the Scottie cross country invitational was a success.
The Frazer football team traveled to Busby to play their final game of the season. They came away with the huge 81-6 victory and Head Coach McCrone was very proud – not for winning the game 81- 6, or the four game winning streak, or even the 700 plus yards passing and 10 touchdowns by Brett Clark. He was proud because the officials and opposing school's staff, fans, and players all expressed how pleased they were and thanked McCrone for how the Bearcubs handled themselves with class and good sportsmanship all day.

An open house for public viewing of the Tyrannosaurus Rex dig south of Fort Peck attracted more than 1,000 people on Sunday.
The University of Notre Dame Paleontologist who returned to McCone Country to rescue a threatened Tyrannosaurus Rex was devastated on Friday to find the dinosaur's skull too severely damaged.
Anytime it is legal is a good time to take a youngster duck hunting but never before has Montana had a special day set aside for that purpose. That will change in 1997.
The Lustre Lady Lions volleyball team received an award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), announced Sandra L. Vivas, Director, in late August. The award recognizes teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining a team cumulative 3.3 grade point average for the 1996-97 school year.

Local School Board Members put their stamp of approval on a proposal outlined by the Montana High School's Association for re-districting and re-classification for athletics at last week's meeting of the board in the Junior High Building.
The 4300 Air Base Squadron of Glasgow Air Force Base celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the United States Air Force at a dinner dance at the base on Sept. 15.

Thursday, Oct. 2, 1947
Twenty- four cars, all loaded with finished lumber, were spilled on tracks and all along the Great Northern right-of-way, near Vandalia, 25 miles west of Glasgow, in a derailment Sunday night about 6:30. None was injured in accident.
A derailment at Vandalia this week recalled a more serious wreck, which claimed the lives of four men in a collision a few miles east, near Tampico, Sept. 26, 1899.
Glasgow High Scotties, playing their first home football contest before a capacity crowd Saturday night, defeated their old rivals, Wolf Point 26 to 6.
Glasgow this month observed the 60th anniversary of the date when one of Jim Hills Railway Clerks in St. Paul looked in an atlas and picked the city's name "out of a bag." For several months before that time it was known as "siding 45."
In spite of the hazardous nature of the work in construction of the 262 foot high steel surge tanks at the power plant and the concrete work in connection, only five lost time accidents occurred in the Fort Peck district from Jan. 1 to Aug. 31 this year.
