Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
Huntley Project established their lead over Glasgow in the first quarter and never relinquished it, winning over the Scotties 42-14.
"Not the outcome we wanted, but overall a blessing to see this high powered of an offense this early in the year," said assistant coach Sam Tedrow. "This Huntley game has given us a glimpse of the defense we can be, now we need to go back to work at practice this week and learn from our mistakes."
Fellow assistant coach Dylan Hughes also found the game to be a learning experience. "After watching the film a few times through, there were plenty of good things to build on. We had some compounding mental mistakes that really changed the scope of the game. I thought our boys played hard and never quit. I am always proud of them for that."
Huntley went up 7-0 in the first, scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run and the PAT. They added three points on a 35-yard field goal early in the second and closed out the half with a 70-yard touchdown pass, carrying a 16-0 lead into halftime.
The Scotties turned it over on the punt return less than five minutes into the third, giving up another touchdown to the Red Devils. Just over a minute later, Huntley Project increased their lead to 28-0 on another touchdown.
Glasgow lit up their side of the scoreboard with 3:26 left in the third on a quarterback keeper. Mason Donaldson ran the ball 6 yards up the middle for the touchdown before the two-point attempt was picked off.
The Red Devils answered by scoring five seconds into the final quarter, increasing their lead to 35-6. They added another 7 points with under three minutes to play on a touchdown run and the PAT kick.
Glasgow kept the fight alive, scoring with 1:06 left on the clock when Donaldson connected with Mo Fast on a 61-yard pass. Tatum Hansen added the extra two points on the conversion.
The Scottie defense allowed 290 yards of Huntley Project offense.
Ethan Nickels powered Glasgow's defense by racking up 11 total tackles, four unassisted. Mo Fast, Vaughn Miller and Toryn Richards each had eight total tackles followed by Wyatt Babb with five. Fast led in unassisted tackles with six.
"Mo Fast was a force holding the edge and out guys made a lot of great plays, including some big tackles for loss and sacks," Tedrow said. Babb, Nickles, Grady Nielsen and Hansen combined for two sacks. Babb, Nickles, Connor Koski, Richards, Nielsen and Hansen were all in tackles for loss.
The Scotties offense put up 176 total yards with 119 net yards of offense. Glasgow had 77 yards rushing and 99 passing yards.
Donaldson led the offense with 47 rushing yards on 10 carries with one touchdown. Hansen carried 15 times for 33 yards.
Donaldson also completed seven of 14 passes for 99 passing yards with one touchdown. Fast had two catches for 74 yards with one touchdown. Babb caught three passes for 18 yards with one fumble. Jack Cornwell added 7 yards on one catch.
In JV action, the Scotties defeated Glendive 28-19 Aug. 29 and played Malta Sept. 5. Glasgow dropped the game 14-8 blocking a punt and scoring a safety. The team marched it down the field but was unable to convert as time expired.
The Scotties travel to Baker this Friday, Sept. 9, for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Spartans.
