Two Attempted Child Abductions in Glasgow

No New Leads As Of Press Time

The Glasgow Police Department is currently investigating two different attempted children abductions that occurred within city limits.

The first attempt was on Aug. 19, where a white male, who was described to be in his 40s, 5’10” with no facial hair, wearing a dark blue shirt, torn shoes and black pants, tried to lure a young girl into his pickup. The pickup was described as an older black pickup with a tonneau cover. He told the girl she was her uncle as a way to convince her to get into the vehicle. The girl was able to run safely inside of her house on the south end of town near Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.

The second attempt occurred on Aug. 24, where a male offered a girl a ride home and when she refused, offered her a stuffed animal to get into his vehicle. The girl rode off on her bike and told her mom. The driver was described as an older male with grey hair and a white beard wearing a camouflage tank top. The vehicle was described as a muddy white cargo van. During the initial investigation, the police stated the suspect may be from around Glasgow and own a black dog.

In both incidents the children arrived home safely and told a trusted adult what happened, in which law enforcement was informed.

Glasgow Police is working diligently on investigating both incidents and as of press time had no further information. As of right now in the investigation, there is no evidence to believe the two situations are related.

According to Victim-Witness Advocate Jewel Etherington, the Glasgow Police Department is working with Irle Elementary’s Principal Sugg to provide a presentation to educate students on stranger danger, how to report something that doesn’t seem right as well as who the trusted adults would be in their lives.

The Glasgow Police Department would also like to remind the public to talk to your children of all ages regarding strangers and to educate children to not take rides from strangers while also reminding them not to talk to strangers. They also advise having open conversations at home to reiterate what will be talked about at school.
