Glasgow Reds Host Three Doubleheaders Over Holiday Weekend

The Glasgow Reds had a packed weekend at home with doubleheaders Friday, Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. They went 2-4 on the week.

Glasgow lost both Friday games to the Billings Cardinals, 5-2 and 9-6. They split their games against the Williston Oilers on Saturday, winning 14-13 after a scoring onslaught in the bottom of the seventh before dropping game two by a 20-9 score. Against Miles City on Sunday, the Reds again split the games. Glasgow lost the first game 17-0 but then returned to the diamond to win 8-7.

The Billings Cardinals took an early lead over the Reds in game one Friday. The visitors scored twice in both the first and second innings while shutting Glasgow out.

The Reds denied the Cardinals any full trips around the bases in the top of the third before scoring themselves. Tatum Hansen crossed the plate on a Juliun Benson ground out.

Billings answered with a run in the top of the fourth. Glasgow sent one more runner home in the bottom of the fifth when a JT Sprague ground ball sent Jack Kolstad home. Neither team scored in the remaining two innings to give Billings the 5-2 victory.

Glasgow was outhit 11-4 in the game. Sprague, Jeramiah Benson, Gage Siefert and Jordan Plummer all went 1-for-3 at bat. Sprague and Juliun Benson each registered an RBI for the Reds. Hansen, Kolstad and Sprague each turned in a stolen base.

Toryn Richards spent all seven innings on the mound, taking the loss for Glasgow. He allowed five runs on 11 hits while throwing two strikeouts and a 63.5 strike percentage.

Game two also went to Billings after they claimed the lead in three innings.

The Cardinals scored three times in the first inning but the Reds answered with three of their own. Hansen scored first on a Juliun Benson fly ball to center field. Juliun Benson scored on a passed ball with Mason Hunter at bat and Sprague was sent home by a Rance Rhoads fly ball to left field.

Billings claimed the lead in the third with two more runs. Hansen scored in the bottom of the fifth, driven home by a Jeramiah Benson fly ball to center field.

The Cardinals padded their lead with four runs in the top of the seventh though Glasgow sent two runners home in response. Jeramiah Benson scored on a line drive to left field by Juliun Benson before the latter scored on a Sprague ground ball to shortstop.

Billings and Glasgow held even in hits with 10 each. Jeramiah Benson led the Reds with his 3-for-4 at-bat performance. Juliun Benson and Sprague both connected twice in three attempts at bat while Hansen, Rhoads and Walker Laumeyer added a hit each. Juliun Benson had two of Glasgow's five RBIs with the others coming from Jeramiah Benson, Sprague and Rhoads. Hansen had the only stolen base for the Reds.

Rhoads took the loss after pitching two innings. He allowed five runs on five hits while throwing a 64.3 strike percentage and one strikeout. Jordan Plummer relieved him for four and two-thirds innings. He allowed four runs on four hits while throwing two strikeouts and a 50.7 strike percentage. Sprague closed out the game for the Reds, allowing no runs on one hit with a 57.1 strike percentage.

Glasgow's first win of the weekend came Saturday in game one against the Williston Oilers after overcoming a 13-4 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Williston scored four times in the first inning while Glasgow answered with a single run. Sprague was sent home by an Aiden Price ground ball to shortstop.

The Oilers scored once in the second and twice in the third before the Reds answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. Sprague scored on a Juliun Benson ground ball to left field before the latter scored on a Jeramiah Benson ground out.

Williston scored three times in the top of the fourth before a double play by shortstop Juliun Benson and second baseman Jack Kolstad ended the half inning. Plummer scored for Glasgow in the bottom of the inning on a Sprague ground ball.

Neither team lit up the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Then Williston scored three times in the sixth before shutting Glasgow out.

The Reds denied the Oilers any scoring chances in the final inning before storming to a win with a 10-run showing.

Sprague started the scoring action, rounding the bases on a Juliun Benson fly ball to left field. Siefert drove Richards home with a ground ball to left field. Juliun Benson scored when Rhoads was walked and Siefert scored when Laumeyer sacrificed his body at the plate. Jeramiah Benson scored the same way when Plummer was hit by a pitch.

Kolten Hansen and Laumeyer both scored on a Hunter ground ball to left field. Plummer scored on a ground ball from Sprague and Richards continued the trend, sending Hunter home with a ground ball to left field. Jeramiah Benson made the ground ball a winning strategy when he sent one to third base and drove Richards home for the Glasgow victory.

T. Hansen earned the win on the mound, pitching the final four innings after relieving Beau Malnaa. T. Hansen allowed four runs on two hits while throwing three strikeouts and a 56.0 strike percentage. Malnaa allowed nine runs on six hits with a 43.4 strike percentage and two strikeouts.

Glasgow outhit Williston 11-8 in the tilt, led by Price who went 3-for-3 at bat. Richards and Juliun Benson both had two hits and Sprague, Siefert, Jeramiah Benson and Hunter connected on one a piece. Juliun Benson, Jeramiah Benson and Hunter each had two RBIs as Sprague, Richards, Price, Siefert, Rhoads, Laumeyer and Plummer added one each. Sprague had the lone stolen base for Glasgow.

Williston took an early lead in game two and held on to it to end the game after five innings with a 20-9 score.

The Oilers scored four times in the top of the first though the Reds answered with three runs for the home team. Kolten Hansen stole home with Malnaa at bat to score first for Glasgow. Malnaa then hit a ground ball and drove Juliun Benson and Richards home.

Williston added another six runs in the top of the second and Glasgow again answered with three runs. Plummer scored on a wild pitch with T. Hansen at the plate before K. Hansen sent Kolstad home with a ground ball to right field. T. Hansen scored on a passed ball with Malnaa at bat.

Glasgow outscored Williston 2-1 in the third. Laumeyer was driven home by K. Hansen's fly ball to right field and Plummer scored on a Juliun Benson line drive to center field.

The Oilers built their lead further with four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Reds scored once in the bottom of the fifth but were unable to stave off the 10-run rule. K. Hansen crossed the plate on a Siefert ground out.

Price took the loss for Glasgow, pitching one and two-thirds innings. He allowed 10 runs on nine hits while throwing two strikeouts and a 53.8 strike percentage. Jon Grimes relieved him, allowing three runs on one hit over one and one-third innings. He pitched a 57.9 strikeout percentage with one strikeout. Kolstand closed out the game, allowing seven runs on five hits with one strikeout and a 53.7 strike percentage.

Glasgow was outhit 15-9 in the game. K. Hansen led the Reds with his 3-for-4 at-bat showing and two RBIs. Juliun Benson, Laumeyer and Plummer had two hits each. Juliun Benson and Siefert had one RBI a piece.

Glasgow faced the Miles City Mavericks Sunday. The Reds dropped their first game 17-0 before regrouping to win the second game by a single run, 8-7. Statistics for the game were unavailable at press time.

The Reds travel to North Dakota this Friday through Sunday, July 8-10, for the annual Williston Tournament with game times to be announced. Monday, July 11, they host the Billings Blue Jays with games at 3 and 5 p.m. Glasgow travels to Sidney Wednesday, July 13, to play the Richland County patriots at 5 and 7 p.m.
