The Glasgow Reds dropped two games in Glendive last Wednesday before splitting a set in Billings on Saturday.
The Blue Devils ended game one in Glendive after four and a half innings with a score of 21-4. Glasgow kept the second game closer, losing by a four-run margin, 6-2.
The Reds brought home their only win of the week by defeating the Cardinals 2-1 in a game that went the distance. Billings took revenge in game two with a 24-1 win after four and a half innings.
Glasgow remained in Billings on Sunday to face the Blue Jays. The Reds dropped both games of the double header, 8-1 and 16-6.
Glasgow fell behind Glendive early in their first game and found themselves unable to catch up after a few innings.
The Blue Devils scored three times in the bottom of the first inning though Glasgow answered with three runs of their own in the top of the second. Jeramiah Benson, Toryn Richards and Jack Kolstad crossed the plate to tie the game.
Glendive, however, reclaimed the advantage with six runs in the bottom of the inning. They padded their lead significantly with a 10-run performance in the bottom of the third.
Richards scored on a Kolstad line drive to right field in the top of the fourth, but it would be Glasgow’s last run of the game. Glendive scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and shut the Reds out in the top of the fifth to end the game early with a 21-4 score.
Glasgow was outhit 12-4 in the game, led by Kolstad who went 2-for-2 at bat. Benson and Richards notched the other two Reds’ hits. Kolstad had the only two RBIs for Glasgow.
Jordan Plummer took the loss for Glasgow, throwing for one and two-thirds innings. He allowed nine runs on six hits with a 54.4 strike percentage. Jon Grimes threw for a third of an inning, allowing five runs on two hits with a 25.2 strike percentage. Walker Laumeyer spent an inning on the mound with five runs on two hits and a 42.9 strike percentage. Tatum Hansen allowed two runs on two hits in an inning with one strikeout and a 46.7 strike percentage.
The Reds came out stronger in game two, but still lost the game 6-2. The lower-scoring affair did not see a run scored until Glendive sent a runner home in the bottom of the fourth. The host team added four more in the bottom of the next inning.
Glasgow’s Rance Rhoads was driven home in the top of the sixth on a line drive to left field by Grimes. The Blue Devils maintained their lead with another run in the bottom of the inning before the Reds added their final run in the top of the seventh. Hansen scored on a passed ball with Mason Hunter at bat.
Hunter took the loss for the Reds on the mound, allowing three runs on three hits over four and one-third innings. He threw a 67.1 strike percentage with four strikeouts. JT Sprague relieved him for two-thirds of the inning, allowing two runs on one hit with one strikeout and a 64.7 strike percentage. Rhoads pitched the final inning, allowing one run and no hits. He threw three strikeouts and a 68.4 strike percentage.
