Underpass Mural Nears Completion

Volunteers Still Needed

Glasgow's underpass mural project, helmed by local artist Cat McIntyre, is nearing completion – just in time for the Glasgow High School All Class Reunion this month. Featuring work from local artists of all ages, the mural will be "unveiled" the weekend of the Reunion with LED lights special to the occasion and a limited-run brochure explaining the history of the project.

The mural highlights the timeline of the area starting with the Lewis and Clark expedition through today. Depictions of the region in acrylic paint include Fort Peck, wildlife (both realistic and whimsical), local crops and Scottie Field. Coming soon is an aerial view of the City of Glasgow featuring iconic buildings.

McIntyre stressed how much of the mural has come from volunteer artists and donations as well as grant funding. On May 25, she was supervising a number of her student-artists from Bigger Sky Kids' art class out of Wolf Point. Students from Glasgow High School have also given generously of their time.

As the project nears completion, McIntyre is still welcoming artists to contribute to the iconic work. The professional artist welcomes contributors of all skill levels. "I try to have easily repeatable patterns that I can teach people," she said, noting the pattern of crops on the east wall. "So I can show them and let them work."

McIntyre welcomes all artists – experienced and aspiring – to contribute to the completion of the mural in the days leading up to the GHS All Class Reunion. Interested parties should contact McIntyre at 406-671-0659.
