ScottieSoftball Comes to a Close

Glasgow’s softball team traveled to Great Falls for the Eastern B/C Divisional Tournament in Great Falls this past week where their season came to end. The Scotties went 0-2 at the tournament, losing a tight 2-1 contest against Conrad on Friday before falling 6-3 to Cut Bank Saturday, to end their season with a 9-13 overall record.

Conrad scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second and the score held steady at 1-0 in a pitching battle until the top of the seventh. Macy Martin rounded the plates for Glasgow, scoring on a Stevie Hartwell ground ball to get the Scotties on the scoreboard.

Conrad answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring for the last play of the game to take the victory by a 2-1 score.

Daley Aune spent the duration of the game in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 120 pitches. She allowed two runs on 14 hits. She also threw five strikeouts with a 64.2 strike percentage.

Glasgow had six hits in the game, led by Zandora Longtree, who went 2-for-3 at the plate. Hartwell, Tatum Nyquist, Aune and Aspen Stulc notched the other hits for the Scotties. Longtree, Martin and Ashlee Meland each had a stolen base.

Glasgow committed no errors in the game while Conrad had two on their side of the books.

The Scotties hit the field again Saturday morning in a do-or-die game against Conrad.

The game stood at 0-0 heading into the third inning when Conrad scored their first run. Glasgow answered in the bottom when Martin scored on the throw when Longtree drilled a single line drive to right field.

Neither team scored in fourth. Then, Conrad opened up their lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. They added another run in the top of the fifth for a 5-1 lead.

Glasgow scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Nyquist and Brielle Partridge rounded the bases on an Aune triple to right field.

Cut Bank added another run in the top of the seventh before shutting Glasgow out for their 6-3 win. Glasgow was outhit 13-7 in the contest, with neither team committing an error.

Aune again spent seven innings in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 107 pitches. She threw nine strikeouts with a 71.0 strike percentage.

Nyquist led the Scotties in hits, going 2-for-3 at bat. Hartwell, Partridge, Aune, Meland and Longtree registered the other hits for Glasgow with Aune leading in RBIs with two. Longtree had the third Glasgow RBI and the only stolen base.

Partridge and Nyquist combined for a double play in the fourth inning.

The Glasgow Scottie softball players will be honored at the Scottie Booster Club All-Sports Banquet Tuesday, May 31, 6 p.m. at St. Raphael’s Parish Gymnasium.
