Hinsdale Student Recognized For Patriot's Pen Essay Competition

The Glasgow VFW Post 3107 honored Hinsdale middle school student Bailee McColly on May 9 at school in recognition of excellence in the Patriot's Pen Youth Essay Competition. As a result, she has been designated as an outstanding young spokesperson of the future and received $100.

Conducted nationwide, this VFW-sponsored youth essay competition gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. This year's theme was "How Can I Be A Good American?" The contest is open to sixth, seventh and eighth graders enrolled in public, private or parochial schools and must be 300 to 400 typewritten words. The essay was judged on the knowledge of the theme, theme development and clarity of ideas.
