Keeping It Positive Steve Beck Presents Two Seminars In Glasgow

The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, along with sponsorships from local businesses, brought speaker, motivator, instructor, author and consultant Steve Beck to the Cottonwood Inn in Glasgow on April 27 and 28 for two different seminars.

The April 27 session was about motivational leadership, and according to Glasgow Chamber office manager Shyanne Wallace 68 people attended the full day session. The April 28 session was a half day focusing on exceptional customer service, which was attended by 71 people.

“The audience included a lot of the sponsored businesses’ staff but we also had staff from other local businesses attend. There was a wide gamut of people with a huge spread of different industries,” explained Wallace. In addition to local participation, one person came from Williston and one came from Circle to attend.

The Motivational Leadership conference focused on topics such as how to motivate the different generations, rules for success as a leader, ways to communicate, how to have a great day every day, as well as reflecting on individual qualities and competencies as successful leaders. The Exceptional Customer Service (E.C.S.) seminar focused on the methods to providing the E.C.S. X Factor which includes affirming the day, setting the attitude, choosing the tone, continuing to affirm, expecting the best, selling yourself and setting the follow-up. Executive Director of the Chamber Lisa Koski and Wallace stressed the customer service seminar was not just about the customer that walks through the doors of a business, but the customer is everyone you interact with in life, including friends, co-workers and significant others.

The common theme between the two seminars was having a positive attitude and “leaving your funk at the door” with every person and situation you encounter.

“There has been good community feedback regarding the seminars,” explained Koski. “One of the attendees told me she was so excited to tell her husband about it when she got home.” Wallace echoed the sentiment by saying “People who wouldn’t normally be excited to go to these types of things left inspired.”

Getting Beck to come to the Middle of Nowhere has been in the making since last fall. He initially reached out to Koski about coming and presenting but it was not good timing. Koski and Wallace had the opportunity to see him in Wolf Point recently and knew they had to get him to come to Glasgow as the experience was amazing and life changing. “It really related to you as a person,” stated Koski. “He kept your attention and you were never not engaged.”

In addition to being a speaker, Beck is also an author of two published books who typically donates funds raised from the sales to Special Olympics, Doctors Without Borders and Wounded Warriors. However, after these seminars, Beck decided to donate locally and provided $240 to Milk River Activity Center.

For those who missed the seminar there will be an opportunity to see Beck again this fall. Koski has plans to bring him back for part two of his Exceptional Customer Service seminar, life-work balance seminar and time management seminar.

In addition to the seminars, the plan is to also have him spend an hour speaking to the high school students.
