Investigation Underway For Death At VC Detention Center

During the late-night hours of March 13, two adult men were detained by deputies from the Valley County Sheriff’s Office for suspected drug activity. An investigation ensued and eventually both men were transported to the Valley County Detention Center. There, one of the men began exhibiting symptoms of a drug overdose. Deputies administered two doses of Narcan/Naloxone to him while EMS was dispatched. An ambulance arrived and transported him to Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital. Early the next morning he died despite substantial lifesaving efforts by hospital staff.

Sheriff Boyer has requested the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation assist in investigating the death since law enforcement was present when he began exhibiting symptoms. The decedent was taken to the State Crime Lab and an autopsy has been completed.

The investigation is still ongoing.
