GWC Crowns Two at Middle School State

The stretch run is upon us! With only three weekends remaining, the Highlanders split up this past weekend at the “Border Brawl” in Plentywood and at the Montana Middle School State Wrestling Championships in Lewistown. It was another banner weekend for our GWC kids of all ages.

In Plentywood, we entered an event-best 35 wrestlers. The small inter-divisional meet featured 167 kids from eight local clubs. The Highlanders were flat-out dominant throughout. When the dust settled, GWC had captured 16 individual championships and 34 top-three finishes. We won 75 percent of our matches overall and really set the tone for the rest of the season.

At Middle School State, thirteen of our fifth through eighth grade grapplers turned in a solid overall performance finishing in 16th overall out of 50 teams at the event with 109 points. The 109 team points was good enough for 5th place amongst Class B/C towns. The highlight of MS State for the Highlanders was two individual state champs! Eighth graders, William Kirkland (135) and Khye Gamas (140) brought home the gold. It is a second consecutive MS State title for Gamas. Congrats to both gentleman. Allen Leslie, Andrew Linder, and Ethan Engstrom also secured impressive top 6 finishes at the prestigious event.

This coming weekend the Glasgow Wrestling Club will attend the Brodie Gorder Memorial Tournament in Sidney. The team Duals will be held on Saturday, March 12, and the individual tournament for ALL ages will be on Sunday, March 13. After that it is back-to-back weekends at the Billings Metra for AAU State and the Montana Open respectively.
