Scottie Boys Advance to Divisional

Place Fourth at 2B District

The Glasgow Scottie boys basketball team advances to the Northern B Divisional tournament this weekend in Glasgow after a series of nail-biting games at the District 2B tournament this past weekend.

After finishing their season with a huge win in Poplar, Glasgow faced the Indians in game one of the District tournament in Glasgow on Thursday. The Scotties fell to the Indians 58-54 in the first round of the tournament.

Poplar came out fired up, ready to steal a game back from Glasgow and led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter. But Glasgow battled back to tie the game at 29 at the half.

The Indians owned the third quarter scoring 18 points and holding the Scotties to 7, giving Poplar their largest lead of the game at 11 points. But Glasgow was far from done. In the fourth quarter, it was again Glasgow's turn to put 18 points on the scoreboard while Poplar added 11. The strong final eight minutes however still left the Scotties 4 points shy of overtime and 5 shy of a victory at the final buzzer.

Poplar's strong outside game was a factor in their win as they hit 11 three pointers, a 45.8 shot percentage. Glasgow's inside game was stronger with an overall 51.1 shot percentage while hitting a third of their three-pointers.

Riley Smith led the Scotties with 22 points, going 10-for-19 from the field and 2-for-2 on free throws. Keigan Ingram hit 6 of his 11 shots and added 13 points. KJ Ingram, in at starter for an injured Wyatt Babb, scored 8 points. Bergen Miller drained two from downtown for 6 points while Dalton Sand added a trey and field goal.

The Scotties allowed the Indians a single free throw in 32 minutes, while going 4-for-7 on their own bonus shots.

Glasgow had 13 assists, led by Miller with 7, Sand 5 and Smith 4. The Scotties out-rebounded the Indians 25-22. K. Ingram led Glasgow with 8 boards. Smith had 4 rebounds and Sand, KJ Ingram and Miller had three a piece.

The loss moved Glasgow to the loser-out game on Friday where they faced Wolf Point. The Wolves lost their first game to the Harlem Wildcats 73-54.

The Scotties fended off a late rally by the Wolves to win by a single point 54-53. Glasgow led 15-11 after one and 30-24 at the half. They were outscored 18-15 in the third as the Wolves cut the Scotties' lead to 3 points, 45-42.

Wolf Point put up 11 points in the final eight minutes and claimed their only lead with the game on the line. With time running out, Scottie senior drew a foul from beyond the three-point line and was afforded three bonus shots.

With Glasgow down two points and the clock reading 0.4 Miller stepped to the line. His first shot cut the Wolves' lead in half. His second tied the game. His third captured the win and kept the Scotties post-season berth alive.

Miller put up 6 points for Glasgow – a downtown shot and the free throws that mattered most. Smith again led the Scotties with 13 points, going 9-for-10 at the line. Babb, back in the lineup, and K. Ingram each hit 3-of-4 on free throws and scored 12 points in the win. Sand added 7 and KJ Ingram scored 4 points.

Glasgow hit 77.8 percent from the free throw line and went 38.5 percent from the field. K. Ingram led the team in assists with three.

The Scotties pulled down 32 rebounds while Wolf Point had 18 boards. K. Ingram owned the category with 15 rebounds, 10 defensive. Smith and Miller each had five rebounds.

The move advanced Glasgow to the consolation game where they once again took on Poplar, cementing the late-season rivalry.

The Scotties led 19-13 after one quarter but found themselves outscored in the remaining quarters as Poplar steadily worked their way to another 4-point victory, 55-51.

The Indians outscored the Scotties by 2 in the second giving Glasgow a 29-25 margin at the half. Glasgow was outscored by 4 points in each the third, 14-10, and fourth, 16-12, quarters.

Babb poured in 18 points for the Scotties, hitting two three-pointers. K. Ingram scored 11 points, including a three and two free throws. Smith added 10 points and Miller scored 8 with two downtown shots. KJ Ingram contributed 4 points. K. Ingram had four of Glasgow's 11 assists while Smith followed with three.

Glasgow pulled down 36 rebounds while Poplar had 27 in their second post-season match-up. K. Ingram led the Scotties with 10 boards while KJ Ingram had eight and Sand six.

Harlem claimed the 2B title, defeating Malta 71-56 Saturday night. The Wildcats beat Wolf Point 73-54 in their first game of the district tournament Thursday evening. . Malta beat Poplar 72-52 on Friday for their shot at a championship.

Glasgow hosts the Northern B Boys Divisional Tournament this Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 24-26. The Scotties' first game will be Thursday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. against the district 1B Champions, the Shelby Coyotes.

Harlem and Conrad open the tournament with a 1 p.m. game on Thursday. Poplar plays Rocky Boy at 2:30 p.m. and Malta takes on Fairfield at 6:30 p.m.
