Frazer Girls Pick Up Conference Win

The Frazer girls basketball team picked up a conference win over the Lustre Christian Lions Saturday, 43-30. The win came after losses to Poplar, 69-43, on Monday and to Nashua

49-39 on Friday, both in Frazer.

Poplar leapt out to a 17-5 lead after one over Frazer. The Bearcubs trailed 28-17 at the half and 55-30 after three quarters of play. They held nearly even with the Indians in the final eight minutes, getting outscored by a point 14-13.

Baily Beston led the Bearcubs with 21 points and Audrey Smoker added 11. Angel Nelligan scored 6 while Isabelle Even and Angeline White scored a field goal each. Evelyn Yellowhammer hit a free throw.

Frazer was called for 15 fouls 10 in the second half. Smoke fouled out while Beston had four infractions. Shakira Beston had three, Yellow Hammer and Nelligan two each while Liana Jackson, Adrianna Iron Cloud, and Leigha Smoker had one foul a piece.

The Bearcubs fell to the Porcupines on Friday after holding even for the first three quarters: 15-15, 28-32 and 39-36 in the first three quarters. They were shut out in the final eight minutes as Nashua went on to win.

B. Beston led Frazer with 15 points followed by Jackson with 12 and Smoker with 6. Even, Nelligan and White each scored 2 points.

Frazer was called for 16 fouls split evenly between the halves. Smoker fouled out while Jackson had three. Even, Nelligan and S. Beston had two each while White was called for one infraction.

Saturday the Bearcubs traveled to Lustre to take on the Lions. A strong second half propelled Frazer to victory.

The Bearcubs led 10-4 after one quarter but trailed 16-14 at the half. Frazer scored 18 points in the third while holding Lustre Christian to 5. They outscored the Lions 11-9 in the final eight minutes for the 43-30 win.

Frazer had three players hit double-digit scoring. Jackson led the team with 12 while B. Beston and Smoker added 10 each. Nelligan scored 7 and White hit two field goals.

Frazer travels to Dodson Friday, Feb. 11, for a girls varsity game at 5:30 p.m. and a boys varsity game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, the Bearcubs host the North Country Mavericks for Senior Night with a girls varsity game at 5:30 p.m. and a boys varsity game at 7 p.m.
