Nashua Boys Drop Two

The Nashua boys basketball team, down a starter, lost both weekend games. They fell to the Lions 51-16 in Lustre Friday and dropped a 56-19 game to the Red Hawks in Lambert the following evening.

Lustre Christian took immediate control of the floor Friday, going up by 20 points in the first quarter, 22-2. Nashua trailed 41-5 at intermission.

A running clock in the second half helped close the scoring gap with Lustre gaining a 6-4 edge in the third and Nashua outscoring their hosts 7-4 in the final quarter.

Grady Nielsen led the Porcupines with 4 points, going 2-for-3 at the free throw line. Damon Adkins and Kevan Viste added 3 points each. Bubba Pugh (starting in place of Xander Pugh), Caden Laumeyer and Ethan Noser scored 2 points a piece.

Nashua was called for nine fouls. Walker Laumeyer and C. Laumeyer had three each, Noser two and Nielsen one.

The following night Nashua had a slow start, getting shut out in the first quarter against Richey-Lambert. Nashua connected on three shots from beyond the three-point line in the second, but trailed 32-10 going into halftime.

Nashua was outscored 13-4 in the third and 11-5 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Viste scored 7 points for Nashua with a trey and going 4-for-7 at the charity stripe. Nielsen added 4, Adkins and Pugh 3 each, and C. Laumeyer 2 points.

Nashua was called for 13 fouls, with Noser fouling out. C. Laumeyer was called for two, and Adkins, Pugh and Nielsen drew officials' attention one time each.

Nashua is scheduled for travel to Whitewater Friday, Jan. 28 to play the North Country Mavericks and to Dodson on Saturday, Jan. 29. Fans should check the Nashua Porcupines Facebook page for up-to-date information on game times and/or potential postponements.

The JV girls are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. game in Whitewater followed by a four 4-minute quarter JV boys game at 5 p.m. Girls varsity will play at 6 p.m. and the boys varsity game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

In Dodson, a shortened JV boys game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. followed by girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m.
