Lustre Christian Lions Defeat Nashua Porcupines

The Lions needed to beat the Porcupines by at least 3 points on Friday in case of a tie heading into the postseason, according to Lustre Christian head coach Bill Reddig. His girls delivered in front of a home crowd, downing Nashua by an 9-point margin, 37-28.

Lustre Christian established their lead in the first quarter, outscoring the visitors 11-4. At the half they went up 18-10. The Lions poured in 15 points in the third while holding the Porcupines to 8. Nashua outscored their hosts 10-4 in the final eight minutes of play.

All five of the starting Lions put points on the scoreboard in the victory. Grace Brown led all scorers with 14 points, including a three-pointer. Alexa Reddig added 11 and Aubri Holzrichter scored 8 points. Abby Olfert and Hannah Brown both connected on a field goal for Lustre Christian.

The Lions held their fouls to 10. Holzrichter, Reddig and Brown each had three while Olfert had one.

Lustre Christian's game against Culbertson on Saturday was initially rescheduled to Thursday, but the games were postponed. At press time a make-up date had not been announced.

The Lions traveled to Scobey Jan. 25. Scores were not available at press time.

Friday, Jan. 28, Lustre Christian hosts Bainville with a short girls' JV game at 3:30 p.m. followed by the boys' JV game at 4:30 p.m. The girls' varsity will start at 6 p.m. and boys' varsity at 7:30 p.m.
