Frazer Girls Lose Two

Frazer’s girls basketball team lost to the Spartans 51-18 at home on Friday before falling to the Red Hawks 56-33 in Froid on Saturday.

The Bearcubs held even with the Spartans in the first quarter going down by only a point, 12-11, after eight minutes. Scobey took control of the game in the second quarter with a 27-13 lead at the half.

The Spartans outscored Frazer 17-3 in the third and 7-2 in the final quarter.

Frazer was called for 15 fouls, seven in the second half. Isabelle Even and Liana Jackson were each called for four and Bailey Beston had three. Angel Nelligan was called for two and Audrey Smoker and Angeline White had one each.

Nelligan led the Bearcubs with 7 points. Jackson added 4, Shakyra Beston 3 and B. Beston and White had a field goal each.

Opheim’s Carrie Taylor, playing for the Unified Scobey-Opheim team, had 19 points and two fouls.

In Froid on Saturday, the Bearcubs mustered more offense. The host team outscored Frazer 14-9 in the first and 11-6 in the second, putting the Bearcubs down 25-15 at the half.

After the break, the Red Hawks lit up the scoreboard with 21 points in the third while holding the Bearcubs to 9. Frazer again put up 9 points in the final quarter, but Froid-Lake added another 10 for the win.

Jackson was called for four fouls. Smoker, B. Beston, and S. Beston had three each. Nelligan had two infractions while White and Evelyn Yellow Hammer had one a piece.

Nelligan again led the team in points with 10, including two from downtown. B. Beston added 9, Smoker 5, Jackson 4, Even 3 and Leigha Smoker 2 points.

Frazer travels to Poplar Friday, Jan. 28, for a girls’ varsity game at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ varsity at 7:30 p.m.
