NC Girls Notch Two More Wins

The Mavericks girls basketball team added two conference wins to their record this weekend with easy victories over Lustre Christian and Frazer. North Country downed the Lions 53-27 Jan. 14 in Lustre and put the Bearcubs away 75-4 in Hinsdale Jan. 15.

North Country established their lead in the first eight minutes in Lustre, going up 15-2. They led 29-4 at the half and 45-9 after three quarters. The Lions rallied with 18 points in the final quarter but with another 8 North Country points, the Mavericks’ lead was insurmountable.

As a team, the Mavericks pulled down 19 offensive rebounds, had 13 assists and 15 steals.

Paige Wasson led North Country with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Teagan Erickson scored 10 points and had four boards. Jaycee Erickson added 9 points, five assists and three steals. Kendall Scheffelmear scored 4 points and had six rebounds and two steals. Mattea McColly pulled down five boards for the victors.

The Mavericks added another easy victory to their winning streak Saturday night in Hinsdale. North Country allowed the Frazer Bearcubs only four points while running up the score on their side of the big board to 75.

The Mavericks had 18 offensive rebounds, 18 assists and 27 steals in the win.

Wasson again led her team with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. T. Erickson scored 17 points, had 10 rebounds and four steals. J. Erickson had three assists and three steals while scoring 11 points. Josie Brown scored 7 points. Scheffelmear added 4 points, five rebounds and three steals. Zandora Longtree had six steals and 2 points.

North Country hosts the Dodson Coyotes in Whitewater Friday, Jan. 21. The girls play at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, they travel to Circle for a girls game at 4 p.m. and a boys game at 5:30 p.m.
