Lustre Christian Girls Add Win

The Lustre Christian girls basketball team fell to the visiting North Country Mavericks 53-27 Jan. 14, but rebounded the next night in Dodson where they picked up a 53-45 victory over the Coyotes.

North Country stopped Lustre Christian’s offense in the first three quarters on their way to the win. The Lions put up only 2 points in the first and second quarters while the Mavericks scored 15 and 14 respectively.

In the second half, North Country outscored Lustre Christian 16-5 in the third quarter before the Lions found the net in the fourth. Lustre Christian put up 18 points in the final eight minutes of play while holding the Mavericks to 8 points.

Aubri Holzrichter led the Lions with 13 points including two shots from downtown. Alexa Reddig added 8 and Grace Brown scored 6 points.

The Lions had 10 fouls, six in the second half. Reddig was called for three fouls. Abby Olfert, Holzrichter and Brown had two each while Hannah Brown was called for one.

In Dodson on Saturday, Reddig was unstoppable from the field, pouring in 39 points to lead all scorers as the Lions won 53-45.

The Lions led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter but went down by a point, 24-23, at the half. Dodson came out strong in the third, putting up 16 points to Lustre Christian’s 9. Reddig put up 17 of her points in the final eight minutes as the Lions ran up 21 points and held the Coyotes to 9.

Holzrichter added 9 points for the Lions and G. Brown scored 5 points.

The Lions were called for 11 fouls, eight in the second half. G. Brown was called for four fouls. Reddig and Holzrichter had three each. Olfert had one foul.

Thursday, Jan. 20, the Lions travel to Culbertson. The girls JV plays at 3 p.m. and the boys JV plays at 4:30 p.m. The girls varsity game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m. Lustre Christian hosts the Nashua Porcupines Friday, Jan. 21, with games at 3, 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.
