North Country Boys Lose Two

North Country traveled to Glasgow for a non-conference game Thursday. After an even first half, the Mavericks fell to the Scotties 55-27. Friday they traveled to Scobey to play a strong Spartans team where they fell 64-31.

The visiting team took a 9-5 lead after the first quarter of play in Glasgow and added another 6 points in the second to take a 15-14 lead into halftime.

The Scotties took control of the game in the third quarter, adding 27 points to their side of the scoreboard while holding the Mavericks to a single field goal. Glasgow continued the scoring onslaught it the final eight minutes with 14 points. North Country connected for 10 points, giving Glasgow the 55-27 victory.

North Country was called for 15 fouls and Glasgow had 12, five in the second half. North Country's Blaine Downing fouled out of the game. Aiden Albus was called for three fouls while Tayor Mogan, Trey Johnson and Kade Strommen had two each. Marshall Caves was called for one foul.

Albus put up 12 points to lead the Mavericks in scoring. Johnson added 5 and Mogan and Coy Bowman had 3 each. Stommen and Caves each scored 2 points.

In JV action, the teams met for a half game with North Country suiting up only five players. Glasgow won 24-7.

The Scotties took a 6-0 lead after one half-quarter and led 14-3 at the half. Neither team connected in the third quarter and Glasgow outscored North Country 10-4 in the final half-quarter.

North Country had four fouls, two in each half, while Glasgow had five total, four in second half.

Caves scored 5 points for the Mavericks, including a trey, and Mogan added a field goal.

Caves had two fouls. Mogan was called for one and Andrew Boucher had one as well.

The Spartans leapt out to a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter powered by a strong outside game. They increased their lead to 41-14 at the half.

The third quarter was closer in scoring with the Spartans putting up a 2-point advantage, 7-5. North Country rallied in the final eight minutes with 12 points, but were again outscored as Scobey put up 16.

Scobey was called for 13 fouls, three in the second half as North Country held theirs to seven total, four in the second half. Johnson was called for three and Downing had two. Strommen and Albus were called for one foul each.

A. Albus scored 13 points for North Country, going 5-for-6 at the free throw line. Johnson added 8, including two from downtown. Downing and Strommen both contributed 5, with a three-pointer each.

Opheim's Bo Anderson, playing for the unified Scobey-Opheim team, put up 4 points in the Spartans' win.

The Mavericks travel to Lustre this Friday, Jan. 14. The girls varsity will play at 6 p.m. followed by the boys varsity at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, North Country hosts Frazer in Hinsdale with the girls varsity game at 6 p.m., followed by the boys varsity at 7:30 p.m.
