Nashua's girls basketball team picked up two wins at home in their first week post-holiday. The Porcupines beat Frazer at home 50-33 Jan. 7 and defeated Brockton by a near-identical margin 51-33 Jan. 8.
The game was tight after the first quarter against the Bearcubs Friday night, with Frazer leading 13-12 at the first buzzer.
Nashua put up strong offensive performances in the second and third quarters to take a solid lead. They outscored Frazer 15-3 in the second and 14-7 in the third.
Frazer put up 10 points to Nashua's 9 in the final eight minutes, giving the Porcupines the victory.
The game was high in fouls and turnovers. Frazer was called for 26 fouls and Nashua racking up 16, 11 in the second half. Nashua had 40 turnovers and Frazer had 25.
Kaitlyn Miller fouled out of the game. Hadynn Adkins was called for three while Alyssa Murdock and Tia Dees had two fouls each. Alexis Murdock, Madison Harris, Deja Morgan and Courtney Tolzien were called for one a piece.
Dees led the team with 17 points, including seven free throws. Alexis Murdock scored 10 points, Adkins 9, Miller 8, Harris 4, Alyssa Murdock 2 and Guinevere Abern and Deja Morgan 1 a piece.
Nashua had 36 free throw attempts, connecting on 16.
Saturday night, Nashua held a one-point lead over Brockton after one, 7-6. The Porcupines outscored the visitors 14-9 in the next eight minutes to take a 21-15 lead into halftime.
The home team put up 11 points in the third while holding the Warriors to 2 points. Brockton scored 16 points in the final quarter but Nashua put up another 19 for the win.
Foul-wise, the game was cleaner with Brockton's 14 fouls and Nashua's nine, two in the second half. Miller had four, Adkins three, and Alexis Murdock and Keelyn Skolrud had one foul a piece. Nashua went 9-for-18 at the charity stripe.
Brockton had 17 turnovers while Nashua had 22.
Dees again led the Porcupines in scoring with 18 points. Adkins contributed 14 and Miller 10 points. Harris and Morgan added three each while Alexis Murdock added 2 and Alyssa Murdock 1 point.
Nashua travels to Scobey Friday, Jan. 14, to take on the Spartans. Girls JV plays at 3 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m. Next Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Porcupines host the Circle Wildcats. Girls JV plays at 3 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 4:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 6 p.m.
