Frazer Girls 0-3 in Return to Hardwood

The Frazer girls basketball team hit a tough week of play in their return to the court, dropping three games this past week. Their first loss came at the hands of the Indians, 87-25, on Tuesday in Poplar. Friday they fell 50-33 to the Porcupines in Nashua and a Saturday road trip to Lustre found the Bearcubs on the wrong side of a 51-22 final score.

Poplar claimed the early lead Tuesday and held on to it throughout the game, leading 26-8, 47-18, 75-18 and 87-25 at the end of each quarter.

Frazer was called for 12 fouls. Audrey Smoker and Angel Nelligan were called for four fouls each. Liana Jackson had two and Isabelle Even and Angeline White had one a piece.

Jackson, Nelligan and Baily Beston led the Bearcubs with 7 points each. Even and Smoker each added 2 points.

Friday in Nashua the Bearcubs held a 1-point lead, 13-12, at the end of the first eight minutes, but Nashua rallied in the second, 15-3, and third, 14-7, quarters to take a 41-23 lead into the final quarter. Frazer outscored Nashua 10-9 but were unable to overcome the home team's lead.

Nashua was called for for 16 fouls, 11 in the second half and Frazer had 26 fouls, split evenly between the halves.

Jackson and Smoker fouled out. Beston and Nelligan had four fouls each. Even had three while Shakira Beston and White had one a piece.

B. Beston led Frazer with 11 points. Jackson and Nelligan had 5 each and Evelyn Yellow Hammer added 4. Even and White added 3 each and Smoker scored 2 points.

In Lustre on Saturday, the Bearcubs took a 4-0 lead at the end of the first eight minutes before the Lions took over. Frazer was held to 2 points in the second and 8 points in each the third and fourth quarters. At the other end of the court, Lustre Christian poured in 17, 20 and 14 points.

Lustre Christian held their fouls to eight in the game while Frazer was called for 18, eight in the second half. Nelligan fouled out and Smoker had three fouls. Jackson, S. Beston, Yellow Hammer, B. Beston and Even were each called for two fouls.

B. Beston scored 8 points to lead Frazer while Nelligan and Even scored 4 each. Yellow Hammer, A. Smoker and Leigha Smoker added 2 points a piece.

Frazer hosts Dodson this Friday, Jan. 14, for a girls game at 5:30 p.m. and a boys game at 7 p.m. against the Coyotes. Saturday, Jan. 15, the Bearcubs travel to Hinsdale to play the North Country Mavericks. The girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the boys game following at 7:30 p.m.
