Bantam Ice Dawgs Pick Up Win in Helena

The Ice Dawgs bantam team lost a game then tied one in Williston, N.D., to start the new year before splitting a pair of games in Helena this past weekend.

In their first game of 2022, the team fell to Williston 7-0 on Jan. 2 before coming back to tie their second game of the day at 3-3. Glasgow picked up a 2-0 win over Helena on Jan. 8 before dropping their Jan. 9 game 3-1 to the Bighorns.

The first period of game one in Williston saw a stalemate as neither team put a puck in the net. The host team started the scoring in the second with two goals and added five in the third while shutting out the Dawgs completely.

Brody Hansen saw 31 shots on his net while his teammates put 17 pucks on the Williston net. Charlie Cornwell served the only penalty of the game, sitting for holding in the third.

The first game “looked like they were coming off the Christmas break,” said head coach Michael Hunter, but the second game, “they came to play.”

Game two in Williston saw the home team take a 3-0 lead after two periods. But the Dawgs surged in the third with three goals of their own. Jacob Potter earned the natural hat trick for Glasgow. Cornwell assisted on the first of Potter’s three goals.

Glasgow put 28 pucks on net while Hansen faced 31 shots between the pipes. Tavin Boland served the lone penalty in the game, sitting in the second for kneeing.

In Helena, Glasgow scored goals in the first and second period of game one in their 2-0 victory.

Boland, assist Hansen, scored the first period goal while Hansen, assist Hallie Hunter, put in the puck in the net in the second. Potter earned the win as the Dawgs’ netminder. Glasgow turned in a clean game with zero penalties.

On Sunday, the Bighorns took early control of the game with two goals in the first and another in the second. Glasgow’s sole goal came in the third period when Bode Barnett, assist Boland, put one behind Helena’s netminder.

Both teams were called for two penalties. Boland earned a 10-minute break for checking from behind in the first and Gryffen Collins sat for 1:30 for unsportsmanlike conduct, also in the first.

Potter saw 36 shots on his net for a 91.7 save percentage. Glasgow put 31 attempts on Helena’s net.

The Bantam Ice Dawgs host Billings next weekend. They play at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, and at noon on Sunday, Jan. 23.
