Valley County residents employed at minimum wage jobs will see an increase in their paychecks this month.
As of Jan. 1, Montana’s Minimum Wage has increased to $9.20, pursuant to §39-3-409, Montana Code Annotated.
Montana statute requires the minimum wage be adjusted annually based on changes in inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index all Urban Consumers (CPI-U) from August of the year in which the calculation is made, and is rounded to the nearest $0.05.
The Department of Labor and Industry is required to make this adjustment by Sept. 30 each year.
The previous minimum wage was set at $8.75.
The $0.45 increase in the minimum wage is a change of 5.25%, and is higher than the increases in the last several years due to higher inflation.
